Y'know, going up in space, visiting other worlds is supposed to blow your damn mind. The idea's that you're exposed to stuff so unreal, so beyond believin' that it's alien to you.

So why exactly are we celebratin' Christmas in space? Feels kinda weird, to be honest. But I guess capitalism and commercialism is a universal concept.

Still, though. Kinda gets me thinkin'. How do you celebrate your holidays where you're from? Don't tell me about Christmas though. We all know about Christmas.

I've heard of Christmas from people from my previous world, but haven't experienced it directly.

It does rely on the existence of seasons and such, but it seems like everyone has some sort of winter solstice tradition. Exchanges of gifts seem common. On my... Home world, I guess it was, it tended to be very heavy on tavern music as well. Handy for a bard, but also caused a lot of opportunities for those who didn't exactly view the festival as sacred.

More than one village fell to the forces of Wrath that way.

This place's celebrations seem less likely to end like that, thankfully.

Are winter celebrations are just music and gatherings?

Magic through music and all of it, yeah. Dunno what they're like on your world, but where I'm from, it's good for adventurers to have one handy.

Music, gatherings, and some local variations. I'd be unsurprised if gift exchanges were part of the pattern in more merchantilist cities. Then again, so was making people like the city guard work through the festivals. I'd say that's a downside, but when there's a very large, unnaturally angry Orcish army about...

Lots and lots of them. I think they're calming down as of when I was 'removed' from my original world a year or so ago.

Guess that's not my problem anymore, though. Can't ever go back. Makes the seasonal traditions here maybe more important.

Nope. Got pulled to a different world about a year ago. Then got pulled from the world I was on here.

This is entirely within the kind of shit the Rifts on that world were capable of, so I shouldn't really be surprised.

What kind of world were you at?

Eh. Some magic experiment - we were getting closer to figuring out what - destabilized the world, causing wild 'rifts' to open everywhere. The native population was sealed somehow because of this, leaving those pulled into the rifts - like myself - to figure out how to stabilize everything.

We, uh, were working on it. And then I wasn't. Because I'm here.

Which I'm still trying to avoid thinking about too much.

That's fair. It sounds like you've got a lot on your mind, with all of that going on.

Part of the challenge is putting it out of mind now that I can't do anything more about it.

And just. Figuring out what I'm going to do here. Talking about stuff like this is at least part of that - there's enough people here that there's a lot of cultures and stories behind them to observe.
