It would likely depend on what sort of dragon we're talking about. The Tempest, being a dragon on the seas, prefers pearls, for instance.

Sadly, large quantities or particularly precious stones aren't cheap, but I have seen some shops here sell small drawstring bags of assorted stones if you'd like to give it a try for a more reasonable price.
