Hey, magic knowledgeable people, how possible is it on a scale of 1 to 100 that people who have a part of what used to be your body (nail clippings, hair, blood, antlers, scales, fur, feathers) could work some kind of magic on you, specifically, with it?

I mean, more how likely do you think it is that people here can do that? Especially as more Chroma's being absorbed back into the world.

I think I understand... it's the pact that allows someone without the artes to make use of them? Are they borrowing your strength, or are you allowing them to access the things you can access in order to do what you do with the wind artes?

[sivard]

It is, yeah.

It's sort of the combination of the two, though. The pact benefits us, too, because malevolence is toxic, and certain humans are largely immune to it, and we're definitely not. So they get access to artes, and we have a pure vessel.

[He sure definitely did not explain any of that well, did he?]

You say vessel, do you end up sharing a body with them?

[sivard]

Not exactly, at least not in the way you're probably thinking.

All Malakhim need vessels, mine is a holy weapon. So they don't need to be people, but holy weapons aren't exactly common, either.

The way to look at it, I guess, is the idea that "body" and "soul" are connected, but not the same thing. Think of it like a rubber band. If you put it between your forefingers and stretch it out, eventually it'll break. With a pact, so long as you stay within a reasonable range of your vessel, the human can use artes, and a malak remains safe from malevolence.

But if you wander too far away, you stop having that shield.

I don't fully get it, but I'm surprised to hear you can get too far from your vessel... or, no. I guess I'm not. More surprised vessels don't all sound like they can choose to move on their own, depending on what kind it is.

[sivard]

Oh, nothing bad happens to the vessel when it's a person.

It's a partnership.

I haven't done it myself, but there's no reason to think it's a bad thing.

So, for example, when this contract is ended for whatever reason, no one dies horribly? That's nice.

[sivard]

No.

Not unless you both absorb a lot of malevolence, then you're fucked.

How does that end up happening?

[sivard]

It depends.

Daemons create quite a lot by themselves, and humans who absorb too much can become one. It can be created a number of ways, but the most basic one would be a person doing something that goes against his personal beliefs.

So a bad guy who kills someone wouldn't necessary create malevolence, but a man who thinks he's done something unforgivable would.

Malakhim who absorb too much malevolence become dragons, and that's as bad of news as you think it is.

Wait, wait, do kids make this stuff too?!

Also, dragons aren't really a bad thing where I'm from, just a really powerful one. Wise, powerful, awe inspiring, stuff like that. What you're talking about... I guess I'd have to think of it as a total corruption.

[ or Murasame going off leash, so to speak. a calamity in and of itself. ]

They do, yeah.
It's why Theodora and I had to find the kids we adopted a human family.

It is total corruption.
It's terrible, incurable.

Even by death?

[sivard]

Well, death is a cure of sorts, I suppose.

It's just not an ideal one.

[inuko]

Not for most, really... but sometimes it's what a person wants for themselves. Hard as that can be to understand, for me at least.

When Malakhim become like that... well, there's nothing left of them to want anything beyond the desire to attack randomly.

It's terrible, to be honest.

[inuko]

Best you can do is end it for them, before they're hurting anyone else with what they've lost. That's a terrible place for anyone to be, you're right. I'm sorry that's what your world has to deal with... things like that, they don't stop being hard.

It's rough, but it does help them be at peace. So that's something, I suppose.
