[Just a simple little post from username 'Bluemarine', but it's posted for everyone to see and the option to reply in any format you like is there, should you feel like it. Somebody sure has the burning desire to ask everyone a question (or piss off as many people as they can, depending).]

How many of you believe in an afterlife? Or...What I should ask is; how many of you understand that you're slaves to fate and destiny, no matter how unhappy yours might be?

You're welcome to try and change my mind on that front, if you think you have the intellect.

Another whose path lead them into the underworld and back out again! I wish I had questions prepared in order to better pick your brains on the matter, since I have obvious interest in the topic. I suppose I'll have to settle for simply asking for any information on what you saw, for I assume you have indeed seen it, if you'll let me.

My own beliefs, however, are simply that my choices lead me down a certain path. I don't know where it ends, for sure, and I can absolutely choose to change my state if I wish, as humans are wont to do. But the me of this moment, and this lifetime, was destined to meet the people I meet and do the things that I do. Or are you going to tell me that out of everyone who could possibly be here, everyone who could be looking at these posts, that you saw mine and responded on a whim is pure coincidence?

As you wish to believe, so your life shall be framed. Do you believe in any manner of gods?

A special occasion, I think. I put out on the first date, but the existential questions are only when I'm feeling truly inspired.

Don't even worry, friend! :p This is my first post, and I'm what they call...Too old to use technology! I have all the patience in the world when it comes to waiting for good new friends, and at least if we keep our usernames for a little, I can keep an eye out for you!

Thank you for answering in earnest. I've been told that saying such things comes off as 'passive-aggressive', but it's a unique perspective that you have on the matter, and I truly do value it.

A truly divine destiny, that of a legend, is a larger burden to bear than the fate of normal people. All you can do is your best to fight on and make the world you want your descendants to protect in turn, I think. After all, no matter what you do, they are the actions of a storied figure and will carry weight no matter how hard it is to see that at the time.

Truly? Goodness, I thought that most civilisations had a concept of fate, even if it's not named as such...We really are a mish-mash of worlds and peoples, aren't we?

Fate is what draws us onwards and together. The people you meet, the experiences you have, the choices you make, they are all fate. You were supposed to experience this life, because it's uniquely for you, a path set out for you at your birth. Your negative experiences test you and make you stronger, and your positive experiences reward your mettle.

It's how I adjust to being here instead of home. I'm here simply because I'm meant to be, and I have to be. There's no point in fighting it and making myself miserable, so much as working hard to do what I can before I leave again. Does this clarify things?

The only deity I hold faith within hail from Takama-ga-hara, where the Gods dwell!

Is it? I'm not saying that people shouldn't be held accountable for their actions, nor that they shouldn't be celebrated for their achievements; that enriches our lives and makes us fight harder.

But not everyone was made to be a hero, or even star in a story. Some people simply suffer unhappy consequences because that's fate, and we can gnash our teeth over it but that doesn't change the fact that they're dead and we're alive.

Oh, so you don't live your life as your deity ordains it? As they'd wish for you to live your life? How interesting...You hold faith in them, but not that they will guide your course with you at the helm...

Not really, no. It's just an interesting thing, so I wanted to see what various people believe here. If you agonise over the game you're playing, however, you're correct in that such a thing could only lead to anxiety.

Best to simply act as you do, and feel reassured in your own actions. For whatever reason you like, that's up to you!

Oh, boo. There goes my hopes of witnessing such a thing. At least I know of the concept now, and that's still very much an interesting idea to me.

Thinking of it as a punishment...Was perhaps too binary of me, yes. Rejecting destiny and being kept from the flow of it is simply nature, and that seems more like the chaotic force that fate can sometimes be. Thank you for going into detail on the matter! :)

Ah, I've yet to shed my mortal temper. My one downfall, I'm afraid. But all gods are, at their core, love; forgiveness typically goes hand in hand with this, once our lessons are learned, so I have to espouse these same values.

Which is why I'm glad that you like the idea of neither of you being 'wrong'. You both...Simply are! And a blessing it is, to be as you are.

Should I call someone for you or do you typically have breakdowns on the internet? Should I pretend that I'm holding your hand?

I enjoyed our conversation at any rate, bait taken and opinions opposing or not. I hope we get to talk about something a little lighter next time so that our budding friendship is mutual!

Exactly! I think it's interesting, and although I'd like to convert everyone to my way of thinking in an ideal world, that's not what makes life fascinating, is it? So disagree I will, and learn I'll continue to do. For example, you've taught me that immortality is more widespread than I'm used to in some worlds.

I've definitely seen it for myself, however. But there was only ever the one in my experience; there was a species close to humanity that could stay immortal if they stayed out of the sun, but the last few remnants were cruelly killed off some decades ago, so one and one immortal alone there is in the world. I don't know how I could handle a world with more than one person with that sort of confidence and lifespan, however!

True. ...I suppose all I can say to you now is that I hope you get to see glimpses of the brighter side of life in time. You sound...Smart. Wise. So that's the least I can do for you.

They are! And with truth and reality all so subjective, I thought that asking these sorts of questions would get me knowledge that no book could; definitely, people have been willing to engage me more often than they want to argue pointblank. I'm grateful for that, and for every conversation I've had which has taught me something about how different worlds work.

One world has a flow of life and destiny, and if one rejects their fate completely, they're kept from this flow. It's a natural fact, but so fascinating to me because that's not something I'm used to hearing. I hope that you get to learn as I do from the dearth of knowledge and experience here, I truly do!

Oh! Forgive me, forgive me. I was being very rude to you, I'm sorry! You're Shintoist, then? I've never met one before, forgive me for my ignorance.

Can you tell me more about how the gods work, then? I haven't had the chance to study up on Shinto, and to hear from someone who practices would be far more interesting than to read dry words on a page.

True, but you could say that about every nation to a degree, couldn't you? The world is growing smaller, but I can't say that that's a bad thing. It would make your work a lot harder though, wouldn't it? And the international squabbles are a lot more subtle than they used to be, too...

People are happy enough to engage me once I actually give them respect, which I'm relieved for! It's been a lot to learn, but I'm glad to have the chance to be educated on so many different worlds...I'm thankful.

I'm a little more jealous for the fact that you get to see your nonno so regularly, even after he passed on; I can't say that I really understand how that would work for you, but...I think that keeping strong ties to the ones you love even after they've passed helps keep them close to you, for sure. And you would've had so much to learn from him! And still do, if he's here! You're truly blessed, I think :)

I like fashion, and

this is a little silly, but I'm very fond of learning about animals. No particular kind, just learning about the beauty in this world and how different each life-form can be...The arts are wonderful too, however! And I have a weakness for music, but cooking...I'm terrible at. You'll have to teach me how to make food like my nonna would want me to, one day! If you ever have the time and inclination, of course.
