Sermon #1 - text
[Just a simple little post from username 'Bluemarine', but it's posted for everyone to see and the option to reply in any format you like is there, should you feel like it. Somebody sure has the burning desire to ask everyone a question (or piss off as many people as they can, depending).]
How many of you believe in an afterlife? Or...What I should ask is; how many of you understand that you're slaves to fate and destiny, no matter how unhappy yours might be?
You're welcome to try and change my mind on that front, if you think you have the intellect.

Feeling a little existential, are we? :)
no subject
More curious about what sort of people I'm living with, and whether they're worth engaging on the sort of level I truly crave. Are you going to answer my question? (:

Maybe we can’t change the destiny of all existence, but we can change the way we live within it. People have that power. What do you think?
[ normally, he wouldn’t bother… but he does have lived experience. ]
no subject
I don't mean the fate set out for you by other humans, either; we're talking a grander concept here. Do you think that, out of all of the people in all of the universes that could possibly exist, your being here at this time in this place to talk to me is simply an accident, that we haven't intersected simply because that's how things are meant to be?

I've spent a long time feeling like I had no choice. My family's dark history just kept following me. But I made a choice and worked hard to stop it, and it's going well.
It's choices that define you and your action, and luck that makes up the rest. But on a level -- down in our genes -- there's a pre-determined amount that forms what will happen to you.
no subject
...I might have worded my query in an inflammatory manner to test people's convictions, but that doesn't mean that I see fate as a chain. Quite the opposite really; it's comforting, something to give you strength when you're lost or in pain. Your choices, your luck, the people you meet, how you cope with situations; all your journey, uniquely you and purely happening as it's meant to be.
[Will this be the only time that Pucci's actually genuine in this post? Probably. Ssshhh.]

The End gets everyone eventually. There is no afterlife, no gods or powers of love and light. Just Terminus.
And not even that sometimes.
And destiny is a series of choices. You might not want it, you might not even know you chose it, but you did. You chose it a thousand times over in a thousand small ways.
no subject
[Pucci you don't know what the hell an Archivist is bar, uh, someone who archives. Don't talk like you know.]
But you've nailed it, yes! Over our lifetimes, there are so many choices with infinite possibilities; that we experience this particular linear path right now is our destiny. Some people despair over the idea, hence my asking.

i didn’t think there was any question about an afterlife
is there?
i mean every world could be a little different
but there are many possibilities
i don’t quite understand tho
being a slave to fate or destiny??
no subject
Che piacere vederti! Come va?
...Sorry! It's been a while since I had the chance to use Italian; I haven't visited my extended family since I was a child :) But the afterlife is a divisive thing, though not aggressively so; some people believe, some don't, and even amongst those camps the idea of what's there can vary wildly. It's a good yard stick to measure by, I think.
And maybe...My wording was a little harsh, just to get people's attention. The actual concept of fate, and our being locked into it, is a much gentler and more loving thing! Whether you experience positive or negative things, that's simply how things are meant to be. There's no escaping it, certainly, but there's also comfort in knowing that you experience what you experience because you alone are meant to have this unique journey in life. Everything tests and rewards you for Heaven, should you believe in that.
Does that clarify a little better?

But that's neither here nor there, I suppose. For the sake of comparison, can I ask you to elaborate on your personal view of fate, if it doesn't match mine as worded in the original post? I'm intrigued, you see.

Sorta smells like old person.
Or maybe that was the old man we were taking there. Ain't exactly sure.
no subject
I'd imagine that old person smells a little better than sulphur and brimstone, at least. They always have the smell of menthol and camphor.
Can I ask what it was like, bar the smell? Haven't made the trip personally, you see.

But I believe in a cycle. I believe we are destined to be reborn and cycle through our lives until our souls believe we have done "right." Then, we are rewarded by being able to do it all over once again.
no subject
I didn't expect to find a Buddhist here, however! I'm not sure why that is, but there we are. How many cycles do you believe that you've gone through?

As far as I've been able to figure out, what those words mean is, no one's responsible for their actions, our choices mean nothing, and everything was ordained by an outside force beyond our control, so we may as well lie down and do nothing for the rest of our lives because "fate" already has everything set up anyway, so why bother?
Yeah, not accepting that.
[In her defense, the last person she ever met who talked about fate and destiny at all was, well... Xehanort.]
no subject
Or do you really just read things and get riled up because the wording isn't pretty and nice? Just curious if anyone's mentioned that to you before.
[PUCCI YOU DON'T GET TO SAY THAT WHEN YOU MADE A CATTY POST ON THE INTERNET. Honestly.]

However, it is interesting that you would mention fate and destiny. Those who utterly curse their fate are said to have "fallen into depravity"
The rukh in their bodies turn from white to black. And if they die in that state, their souls can never rejoin the great flow
no subject
I'm especially interested in the concept of being punished for resenting the fate you've been given, and essentially being scooped out of the afterlife like pond scum for it. Has anyone here shown signs of doing exactly this, or is it truly unique to your home?

I guess I can’t argue with the idea that there’s a pretty certain binary path for most people back home, which is either that you get reincarnated or you hit enough of a spiritual peak that you can ostensibly keep existing in the Spirit World.
But really, I can’t say that I actually believe in things like fate and destiny beyond there being that technical end point, unless that’s what you’re trying to get at here. I suppose there isn’t really much arguing with the inevitability of death, but I can’t say I’m too bothered by that as much as the idea that there’s something actually governing the actual events of our lives before the end.
oh tarrlok honey
It's not a horrible concept, and you can fight it all you wish. That's your fate too.
He’s got a storm comin

The future is never set in stone.
no subject
Your fate is not what your parents wanted you to be as a child. It's not what you thought you would be when you grew up. It's about growing through those preconceptions and into a unique you. That is set for you, and you simply have to reach it as you were meant to.

What do you believe in to be asking such a thing?
no subject
I've been pleasantly surprised so far. My beliefs, however, should be clear by reading the post. Perhaps not in such a dire manner, however; I actually view it as a comfort, the idea of my path being the only one I can take no matter what I do.

I will not attempt to dissuade you from your beliefs in fate and destiny, as they are naught more but a passing interest. However, do you not believe that you possess the ability to change the course of your life?
no subject
My own beliefs, however, are simply that my choices lead me down a certain path. I don't know where it ends, for sure, and I can absolutely choose to change my state if I wish, as humans are wont to do. But the me of this moment, and this lifetime, was destined to meet the people I meet and do the things that I do. Or are you going to tell me that out of everyone who could possibly be here, everyone who could be looking at these posts, that you saw mine and responded on a whim is pure coincidence?

Or the afterlife, as you called it. I called the spirits of those who had died before, so I'm inclined to believe in its existence.
As for the matter of fate and destiny, every being has the will to make their own choices and change their own life; not to be bound by fate. The future is undetermined.
no subject
One could always argue that each choice is a branch for two or more universes to be born, in which case, the path that you uniquely go on is still a form of destiny. But the future is certainly unseeable by most, which is the painful part as far as I'm concerned! :)
