Sermon #1 - text

[Just a simple little post from username 'Bluemarine', but it's posted for everyone to see and the option to reply in any format you like is there, should you feel like it. Somebody sure has the burning desire to ask everyone a question (or piss off as many people as they can, depending).]

How many of you believe in an afterlife? Or...What I should ask is; how many of you understand that you're slaves to fate and destiny, no matter how unhappy yours might be?

You're welcome to try and change my mind on that front, if you think you have the intellect.

That's wrong!

To say that everyone is bound by an invisible fate for all actions and accomplishments takes away initiative and personal choice.

It's saying that no ammount of effort will change things unless pre ordained.

There is always choice and accountability.

I’m not saying everyone is a hero... but, everyone is the protagonist of their own story. To resign ones self to fate is to take away agency from the individual and their ability to change their surroundings. Sure, some people are lucky, and some people aren’t, but nothing is preordained!

And, I’m not saying fate doesn’t exist, but, I don’t believe it is all encompassing and impossible to escape. We each have a hand in our own fates.

It's true that bad things can happen for apparently no reason, that bad luck is uncontrollable, and terrible people can be lucky....

[But this reasoning was too close to Komaeda's way of thought, a destructive way of thought!]

I know that despair can affect anyone, deserved or not, and there's no justification for it. Sometimes it's inescapable.... terrible horrific things will happen over and over....

Even things as terrible as being forced to murder each other....

But, that wasn't because of some outside all encompassing force, that was due to the choices of individuals. And sometimes those people have more of the cards in their hand, but that doesn't mean that our deck wasn't carefully crafted too! When you don't give up and resign yourself to an invisible force, you can think you're way through any problem. Maybe here and there you get a lucky break, or a bad end, but the important thing is to never give up, to never give into despair, because you can have an affect on your own life and future.

I have seen it. And I will never give up on them.

And though I can't accept yours, I also respect it.

[After all, everyone comes to their conclusions based on what they have experienced, the same as herself. She can't fault someone for having come to their own conclusions through what life had brought them.]

But for the sake of my classmates, I can never give up, and I will hold it tight, and I will hold them tight, supporting them no mater what.
