So... just to relieve some boredom:

Has anyone ever had some kind of fictional "creature" turn out to be real for you? Vampires, yetis, ghosts, whatever. Something that was purely fiction for you until some point or another, or that Mulder and Scully would crap themselves over. How accurate are they to the stories, if so?

I'll go first. I know I talked about this already, but... zombies? Used to be a pure movie-and-video-game thing for me. Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later sort of shit. Then they turned out to be real. Mine aren't undead, but they DO mutate, which is kind of bullshit.

Zombie bullshit.

"Aliens" is cheating, for the record, but only because we're all going through that right now.

And, uh... if you are a vampire, yeti, ghost, or whatever? That's cool too.

I'll be real, I was just barely used to the zombie thing by the time I got here. But I'm getting used to the other stuff... a little.

Yeah. Honestly, I was... kind of in denial about the apocalypse part for a while. Preferred to call it the infection, which... it is? But "zombie apocalypse" was hard to swallow.

The apocalypse is hard to conceive of after a lifetime of mostly normalcy.

No. No noting quite like that.

The vampires are a symptom not the cause. We managed to stop the last attempt at an apocalypse.

There were attempts?

Oh yes, there have been lots of attempts throughout history.

Well, there was the one in Turkey with the hole filled with meat. The performance of the Mechanical Turk in Budapest in 1787. The one on an island that never existed in 2010 or so. One in Bucoda, Washington in 2009.

The one that happened last year which... it was stopped.

An old gnostic church on the outskirts of Istanbul. There was a hole. And they kept throwing meat into it.

Wait, back up. WHY did the hole meat almost cause an apocalypse, again?

Because it was a ritual to bring an eldritch entity that's the manifestation of the mingled fears of humans and animals that we're all just... meat, into the world.

That's... a hell of a sentence.
