Has anyone ever had some kind of fictional "creature" turn out to be real for you? Vampires, yetis, ghosts, whatever. Something that was purely fiction for you until some point or another, or that Mulder and Scully would crap themselves over. How accurate are they to the stories, if so?

I'll go first. I know I talked about this already, but... zombies? Used to be a pure movie-and-video-game thing for me. Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later sort of shit. Then they turned out to be real. Mine aren't undead, but they DO mutate, which is kind of bullshit.

Zombie bullshit.

I've found the much more interesting creatures are the ones that turn out to be real but which are not common cultural knowledge.

Everyone has heard of unicorns or Mothman. Very few are aware of killbillies or beard cubs outside of their known native territory.

Oh, when I discovered things like vampires and demons were real, I was knee deep already and only went in deeper since.

I had a ghost, at least two half demons, a vampire, and a robot in my class. The first time I remembered using magic, I saved my friend from an arrow to the torso. It's a lot already!

You know, I myself had never heard of vampires until I came here, so I know of them only as a real phenomenon... I had no idea they were normally fictional. Or, well, that in some worlds they are fictional... or at least are believed to be so. [ frown... ]

It doesn't literally have to be zombies and vampires, you know. Just whatever was fictional where you're from. Storybook creatures, monsters made up to scare kids, urban legends, whatever. If we get into the whole "some things are fictional in some worlds but not others," I think we're both gonna get a headache.

In my world's fiction, yeah. Zombies are undead people. Usually have a craving for human flesh and such. The real ones, at least where I'm from, are from a virus.

There are...beings in my world called Forenthieths. They're basically things of legends because surviving an encounter with one to is almost impossible. But people have, so that's how we know they're real.

But I've never heard of...vampires or yetis before. I think every world has ghosts though, which is weird when you think about it.

if you wanna know about vampires, though, they're basically....folklore kind of creatures? where i'm from i mean. essentially cognizant undead people, but they drink blood and burn in sunlight and stuff. there's about 10000 other rules too, but it depends on your story.

Zombies back home tend to be alerted to sounds, more than sights. They only tend to come out in the dark, in my experience, but I could very well be wrong.

Ours were, too. They came out in the day too, but. Making noise usually attracts a lot of them. The downside was, sometimes you had to make a lot of noise.

I have no idea what vampires and zombies are. Alien is a concept introduced to me by others in this world otherwise it'd be in the same category as vampires and zombies.

But in my world, very few people are used to the concept of spirits, yetis, ghosts, and so on. Ironically, they believe in "gods", but not the former. Only those in my family circle have always believed in them due to our abilities.

I didn't believe in "gods", to be quite honest. I wholeheartedly believed they were simply more powerful spirits living in a specific area while corrupted individuals created the title of "god" for them and used religion to control others and be excused to do awful things. [She has too much experience in that area. How many times has the Sun Church tried to kill her? Not to mention, those parts of the Dragon religion kidnapped her?] But due to certain circumstances, I have come to learn the truth over the matter, so I now believe in these "gods" but not in the groups supposedly centered around them, if that makes sense...
