So... just to relieve some boredom:
Has anyone ever had some kind of fictional "creature" turn out to be real for you? Vampires, yetis, ghosts, whatever. Something that was purely fiction for you until some point or another, or that Mulder and Scully would crap themselves over. How accurate are they to the stories, if so?
I'll go first. I know I talked about this already, but... zombies? Used to be a pure movie-and-video-game thing for me. Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later sort of shit. Then they turned out to be real. Mine aren't undead, but they DO mutate, which is kind of bullshit.
Zombie bullshit.
[that's zoey's line but ok rochelle]
"Aliens" is cheating, for the record, but only because we're all going through that right now.
And, uh... if you are a vampire, yeti, ghost, or whatever? That's cool too.
[slowly, she's accepting that these are Real Things she has to consider too]
I'll be real, I was just barely used to the zombie thing by the time I got here. But I'm getting used to the other stuff... a little.

[Cue one US government scientist with Classified Knowledge.]
Since aliens don't count, my personal experience is a little on the useless side, but they don't really compare to 'zombie bullshit' anyway.
[He lowers his voice to a mock-conspiratorial tone.]
I have been privy to several extremely legitimate reports about Bigfoot, though.

[As for Bigfoot--]
Oh really. [Said about as mock-believing as he is mock-conspiratorial.] So's it true that he likes to surf?

Zombie bullshit. And a whole lot of mutated shit, too.
[Thanks, Umbrella!]
You know what's weird? I can barely remember now what those old movies and stories said about them. All that's in my head now is what I had to deal with.
[Maybe that's just the trauma talking, though.]
Sorry you had to go through that, though...
no subject
[Not you, Carlos. Just zombies. In general. Same hat!!]
It's... okay. [It's not, but she appreciates the sentiment nonetheless.] You know what else is weird? It's kind of nice to be able to commiserate with other people over zombies too. How long... were you in it, then? If you can't remember the old stuff anymore.

[ He is very much pouting, because zombies were straight out of the movies for him, but it sounds like more fun than intergalactic war. ]
All we got were the aliens. Some were cool and all, but some just kinda wanted to invade everything and take over the universe. And for the record, the ones they show on TV and stuff with the big heads and giant eyes? Totally had one of them sell us a video game system and give us a free cow with purchase in the mall... then we got chased out by a purple mall cop on a segway.

[also: um]
I DID just say "aliens" is cheating... but I got a feeling that last bit was a fever dream on your part.

Oh yeah. Plenty. I found out vampires, werewolves, and witches were real all on the same night. Oh, and sirens.
[ How could she almost forget her roommate? It's probably because Lindsey's the only siren she's met so far. ]

If it helps, I feel like vampires, werewolves, and witches are... pretty basic? Not in a bad way, but. If you're gonna get a supernatural crash course? Those ones are kinda easy to understand.
Or maybe they're not. I'm just guessing. You're the one that met 'em.

I had a ghost, at least two half demons, a vampire, and a robot in my class. The first time I remembered using magic, I saved my friend from an arrow to the torso. It's a lot already!

I am likewise unfamiliar with "zombies" and "yetis," though I gather that a zombie is something that is undead, that mutates, or both...?
no subject
In my world's fiction, yeah. Zombies are undead people. Usually have a craving for human flesh and such. The real ones, at least where I'm from, are from a virus.

But I've never heard of...vampires or yetis before. I think every world has ghosts though, which is weird when you think about it.

[She's guessing.]
and i'm pretty sure there's no ghosts or vampire where i'm from
keyword: "pretty" sure
if you wanna know about vampires, though, they're basically....folklore kind of creatures? where i'm from i mean. essentially cognizant undead people, but they drink blood and burn in sunlight and stuff. there's about 10000 other rules too, but it depends on your story.

Otherwise, closest I've got is Adam's idea of aliens, which... can't speak to the plan for other planets or even if there was one, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't that.

Vampires do exist, but they're purely monstrous, more akin to leeches than Transylvanian royalty.

Oh god. Don't tell this one guy I met back home. He kept calling the zombies vampires. [She huffs a laugh.] I usually think Bram Stoker when I think "vampires," though. Are yours like... Nosferatu or something?

[ You can swear, Rebecca, your mom's not here... ]
I think our situations are sort of the same. They're not the walking dead like the old movies. Most are just mutated people infected by the virus. The rest we've classified as bio-organic weapons. BOWs.

[Also, you can definitely swear around Rochelle, girl. It's okay.]
Wait, though - bio-organic weapons?

Body snatchers turned out to be pretty close to the mark too.
Honestly, at this point I don't know if I can even be surprised anymore.

Yours mutated too? What kinda things? I doubt it, but... who knows, maybe we got the same ones?

[ Those just sound like regular creatures to Fjord, but then again he is a green half-orc on her screen. ]
Zombies back home tend to be alerted to sounds, more than sights. They only tend to come out in the dark, in my experience, but I could very well be wrong.
no subject
... yeah. You give that impression.
[Nothing against the orc thing, my guy.]
Ours were, too. They came out in the day too, but. Making noise usually attracts a lot of them. The downside was, sometimes you had to make a lot of noise.

But in my world, very few people are used to the concept of spirits, yetis, ghosts, and so on. Ironically, they believe in "gods", but not the former. Only those in my family circle have always believed in them due to our abilities.
[And even now, she supposes, she can admit.]
I didn't believe in "gods", to be quite honest. I wholeheartedly believed they were simply more powerful spirits living in a specific area while corrupted individuals created the title of "god" for them and used religion to control others and be excused to do awful things. [She has too much experience in that area. How many times has the Sun Church tried to kill her? Not to mention, those parts of the Dragon religion kidnapped her?] But due to certain circumstances, I have come to learn the truth over the matter, so I now believe in these "gods" but not in the groups supposedly centered around them, if that makes sense...
no subject
[She huffs a small, awkward laugh.]
I have a friend who'd be thrilled if he knew "spirits" were a thing. He'd a big ghost story guy.
