Hello, my name is Soubi Agatsuma. When I first arrived here, I opened up commissions for that band everybody was obsessed over. Since we've moved past that, I want to advertise my art once more.

I'll paint anything. There isn't anything I won't paint. Subject matter, size, object, anything. I'm a university student majoring in art and have painted since I was a small child. I'll let my examples speak for themselves.

[The images he shows are simply pictures he's taken. One of them is a butterfly pinned down, one wing almost torn off in the struggle of trying to escape but being unable to. Another is a butterfly with its wings slowly burning away as it tries to fly towards the sun. The third example is a large landscape portrait of a forest...

With dead butterflies all along the ground. When he's in a bad mood, he paints butterflies. He's always in a bad mood.]

I have some examples of those guys that were here but I doubt anybody is interested in seeing those. If anybody is, though, take them off my hands. They're taking up space that I could use for other pieces and it was a waste of resources. 20 chroma a piece. 30 chroma if you want some details changed. I could change the faces.

We'll discuss the price of original pieces if you're interested but my base rate is around 40 chroma. I'm a fast worker.

[His first thought isn't of commissions. As someone with some interest in the arts, he naturally is curious. And the art is good! Though the way the subject matter is presented is very different from what he's used to...it's curious.]

Are butterflies a common subject matter where you've studied or is it a personal preference? And is such grim interpretations of these kinds of subject matter the norm?

I paint butterflies a lot because I don't like them.

[That might make no sense at all but he's never claimed to be very sensical. If there's something he's unhappy about, which is often, one can tell by what he paints.

If he's in a good mood, it's usually flowers.

Being kidnapped to a whole other planet did his art no favors.]

Why paint things you don't like?

It makes for good stress relief, wouldn't you think?

And people tend to like them best. The pieces I have of butterflies.

I confess, that is not how I'd go about doing it.

The arts are more meditative for me than an avenue for relieving stress.

[....but you know. Maybe it's because his temper is short and he acts on it instead of redirecting it. Usually by whipping someone.]

They are quite striking. Though I suppose it should be expected from someone who has spent so many years practising his craft.

[There's the people who whip and the people who are whipped. Soubi tends to be the latter.

So maybe that explains a lot.]

Paintingcan ber many different things for everybody. I have had to learn about it a lot during university.

Thank you, though. I guess I have been painting for a long time. I never thought about it until just now.

Like all skills, persistent practise makes all the difference.

Have you ever learned the other arts?

[Where he's from, in addition to painting, a scholar would also learn the basics of calligraphy, music and poetry. He wonders if that is the case in all places?]

No. My education was focused on other areas. [Fighting, really. Everything else was very lacking.]

During my childhood, my art was only a hobby. I am decent at calligraphy but it's not where I excel at all.

Fighting.

[Most times, he wouldn't announce this but everybody here is different than back home. He's met plenty of people here who are similar enough so this shouldn't stand out too much.]
