Hello, my name is Soubi Agatsuma. When I first arrived here, I opened up commissions for that band everybody was obsessed over. Since we've moved past that, I want to advertise my art once more.

I'll paint anything. There isn't anything I won't paint. Subject matter, size, object, anything. I'm a university student majoring in art and have painted since I was a small child. I'll let my examples speak for themselves.

[The images he shows are simply pictures he's taken. One of them is a butterfly pinned down, one wing almost torn off in the struggle of trying to escape but being unable to. Another is a butterfly with its wings slowly burning away as it tries to fly towards the sun. The third example is a large landscape portrait of a forest...

With dead butterflies all along the ground. When he's in a bad mood, he paints butterflies. He's always in a bad mood.]

I have some examples of those guys that were here but I doubt anybody is interested in seeing those. If anybody is, though, take them off my hands. They're taking up space that I could use for other pieces and it was a waste of resources. 20 chroma a piece. 30 chroma if you want some details changed. I could change the faces.

We'll discuss the price of original pieces if you're interested but my base rate is around 40 chroma. I'm a fast worker.

they're a merfolk, could you use an oceanic theme for the painting?
some green seaweed with purple flowers would be appropriate imagery too, to represent the people who love them

[Double? That is a lot and Soubi wasn't going to turn it down but he most definitely was not going to do so now.]

I'm best at painting flowers so that the added details won't be hard. The base price for something like this would probably be about 60 chroma.

[And this will at least be a bit fun to paint. He's never had to paint somebody that was a merfolk before.]

[ Regular housemates-to-lovers interactions has its perks, a steady stream of chroma being one. Fjord is buzzing with it, and a Sanguis to boot, so he's prepared to be a Big Spender and make this artist mildly rich. ]

the seaweed represents me (i'm green) and the flowers are their partner (who is purple), only we're both from the same world and this friend isn't so i thought maybe the plants could be reaching up for them in the water??
they had a rough moon lately and felt very ugly, so i'd like to give them a gift that reflects how beautiful they are all the time regardless of tentacles sprouting out of their brain for one week a month

That price works and this is a very thoughtful gift. [And very particular but he doesn't mind it. There's something comforting about having this kind of directions. Since this is so particular, though, I might have a few different preliminary sketches drafted up and have you pick through them if that's alright?

[Honestly, he's a walking stereotype when it comes to tortured artist.

But true to form, he sends four different versions of the sketch two hours later. The differences between them are a bit minor. One version has a more serene look on Fish's face surrounded by the seaweed but also purple lilies.

The next one has a playful smile on Fish's face and that's the face in the other three sketches with the purple lilies. The other flowers in the other two are irises and gladiolus.

It should be noted he clearly has the best skill with drawing flowers.]

I didn't know what look on your friend's face to go with. As well with the flowers. Purple lilies can be seen as rare as long as admiration which might go with what you're hoping for in this piece but irises are pretty but the meaning doesn't work. Purple gladiolus can stand for grace but they're pretty enough flowers.

[ So much work went into the prep! He's glad to be paying this overworked artist so much now. ]

What about the Groves on the second level? I don't have a specific location in mind but I like to go there a lot to look at the flowers. I would tell you a more specific location when it's time.

Soubi is fine.

[He isn't a fan of manners being shown towards him. But he did finish it in a couple of days but being cordis, he hadn't wanted to see anybody during this moon.

So when it's over with, he messages Fjord on the 11th.]

I'm done with your piece. Would you be able to meet up today or some other time?

[ With the drama around Persephone, he completely forgets about the commission and is pleasantly surprised by the text. Time feels like it has flown. ]

today is fine! i can be at the groves for 11?

Sounds good. I'll meet you there. I should probably be the only person there with a painting but I'll wear a long maroon jacket. Probably smoking.

[Sure he could send a picture but that's not the first thought on his mind. This was how you usually did things during his time.

And he is near one of the gardens more than ten in a long maroon coat with a fur trim and smoking. With what is obviously a painting. Covered up so it can be protected. Usually he's late to everything but when it comes to the paintings he is much more punctual.]

[ He's seen some odd humans in his time but Soubi is higher on the list than most. Fjord thinks of Frumpkin, Caleb's cat, when it lounges around one of the Nein's shoulders and looks lazily off into the distance. Soubi smoking in that long jacket has the same energy. ]

[ A green half-orc over six-feet tall in a lilac hoodie, drawing up beside the table. ]

You must be Soubi. Thank you very much for all your hard work.

[At least he knows not to stare at Fjord even though he's not anything like Soubi has ever seen before but he does stand out to him. Not really what he was expecting at all. Sure, Fjord said he was green but he hadn't expected actually green.

Soubi very much stands out and he always has. From his fashion sense to his absurd height for Japanese standards (6'3" which practically makes him a giant back home), he never quite blends in no matter how hard he tries.

He smiles a smile that doesn't reach his eyes at all and is just there for politeness' sake. With one last long drag of his cigarette, he puts it out and leaves it there, not bothering to throw it away. Some manners he just doesn't know at all.]

Hello, Fjord. Sorry for the delay. I'm new here and I was getting used to some things but your piece is all set.

[He takes it out of its cover to show it off and despite the rather quick time, he obviously put a lot of care into the final product and especially so with the lilies. He likes painting flowers. It looks like Fish is being protected by the seaweed and flowers, which flow around them in a comforting and non-restrictive way under the water. Fish has one of the lilies in their hand while they seem to be petting the seaweed around their wrist. It's a soft piece and he hopes it gives off the mood that Fjord had wanted.]

Is this good?

[ He's not at all unused to humans greeting him with less than warm attitudes, so the veneer of manners is more than enough and appreciated. ]

That's alright, I quite understand.

[ When the picture is revealed his expression goes slack, astonished at how beautiful it is. He knew it would be, having seen the sketches, but the entire mood it encapsulates is perfect. ]

You're amazing, there's so much talent in this. [ Slit-yellow eyes swerve to Soubi, sincere gratitude in them. ] This will make someone very happy.

[Compliments often make Soubi uncomfortable but it's different when they're compliments about a skill. To Soubi, being able to paint is simply something he learned to do. It isn't special.

He can brush this off and keep the smile on his face.] I'm very happy you like it. You had a good idea going with the lilies. It fits well and I had a lot of fun painting it. I'm glad your friend will like it as well.

Oh! Let me pay you, my gods. I almost forgot.

[ He's so pleased that he shoots Soubi a straight 150 in chroma via his comm, the tip being wholly due to how thrilled and relieved Fjord is by the finished product. ]

If I need another painting, I'll be sure to seek you out again.

[Wow, that is almost triple what he priced and he's surprised. That look of surprise doesn't stay off of his face.]

[If it was just for himself then he may have said something but well, this money isn't for him so he smiles and nods.]

[ The phrasing drags his attention off the painting at last, blinking at the blonde curiously. ]

Ah, is your work supporting the two of you?

Yes.

[Maybe that comes across as a bit weird but Soubi is quick to defend it.] We come from the same world and he is unable to work. I want to support him. [More like he kind of has to.

And this person is his master.

But details.]

[ There's a lot of masters floating around the network these days, yikes. ]

Well then, I'll be sure to spread your name around my friends. Hopefully that will get you out there a bit more too. [ He takes the painting and offers a handshake. ] It was a pleasure doing business with you, Soubi. All the best to you and your friend.
