Greetings, my name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. And this is my compatriot and partner, Anakin Skywalker. We hail from Coruscant and are part of the Jedi Order.

The Jedi are keepers of peace … most of the time.

[ Before Obi-Wan can say anything, Anakin looks over at him with a shrug. ]

I’m just saying.

[ Obi-Wan sighs. ]

Yes. Well, nevertheless. We would like to offer our services to the public. We’ve been trained in negotiation, trade and, yes, the art of a good fight. If you need support or bereft of someone to help you . . . then we’re happy to serve.

And blowing things up. We’re good at that too!

[ Obi-Wan looks skyward as if imploring a higher deity. ]

Yes. We’re good at that too.

... "Coruscant", hmm? That makes another world that's new to me, though I am sure you've heard that a hundred times by now.

The Jedi order... Negotiation, trade, combat - almost sounds like the Paladins of my own world.

Oh, uh. My name is Pidonus, I'm, among other things, a Bard. Where I'm from, that means magic through music, negotation, and... "The art of a good fight" was it?

It means I love learning about other worlds, most importantly. If you're up to talk the subject, of course.

Magic through music? How does that work?

The flippant explanation is "I sing or play the right song while focusing the right thoughts, and things happen." Some of the specific effects I can do through dancing, but that's the fundament.

One step deeper... Has it been explained to you how supernatural powers, in spite of the vast difference in origins in our respective worlds, still function here? In my case, I'm able to cast what I know as "arcane" magic from a modest repertoire of spells, the same as on my home world, even though there doesn't seem to be a Weave here in the same way as I'm used to - the Weave being a set of fundamental energy currents that power most sorts of magic where I'm from.

Of course, a lot of these terms, you may not have context for at all - or they may mean different things. I've no way to know until I speak on it - and learn from other's stories, ideally. At least, when I get the chance.

Oh, uh ... I apologize. I don't mean to sound rude. I'm still getting used to how things work here. And other people from other places.

I have powers as well, but I get mine from the force. Which is energy that connects all living beings.

... A fundamental energy of life itself.

I'm trying to think if there's a directly similar power in my world, but... No obvious match.

And yet, both of our powers work here, just fine. It's amazing, but the kind of physics involved...

Mine are usually much stronger. Now it's distant, fizzled unless I use the chroma. I don't like it, but there isn't much I can do about it.

That... You're right. I don't always notice it, but that is there.

It makes the nature of this place even more complicated, to say the least...

And makes us have to be more conservative with our abilities. Which is not something I care for in the slightest.

More importantly I'd rather get back home, but there doesn't seem to be a quick option for that either.

... I'm one of those people who's very much in the minority for not wanting to go back home, but I do get that.

You were dealing with something important, I presume?

There's a war going on back home. People are dying. If we don't stop it, everything will continue to get worse.

... That... Yeah. I can only imagine the fear and... Everything, taht would lead to.

I am lucky that my world was at relative peace when I left it, I guess...

A bard?

I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar.

... From what I've seen, that immediately tells me your world is far, far more advanced than mine. Probably broadcast for music, storytelling, and the like?

In my age, we don't have any tech like that. What we had were bards - travelers like myself who bring song and dance to people. Many bards, myself included, double as adventurers - helping people fight dragons, bandits, that sort of thing.

I'm going to guess 'Paladin' has little meaning to you, as well?

I'm familiar with paladins, though we don't have those around.

[ at least he doesn't think so. the galaxy is vast so who knows? ]

How does a bard help in adventures?

Well, besides music and stories being good for relieving boredom on long, long treks as long as the Bard has enough stories, fables, and songs...

We're kind off a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none sort. Healing and enhancing the abilities of our allies with musically-touched magic, messing with the heads of our foes with the same in various ways, straight-up fighting, knowing how to do a wide variety of stuff...

We're not as good at fighting as a fighter, at combat magic as a wizard, at healing as a cleric, or at skill stuff as a rogue. But we're decent at all of their things - and thus able to help just about anywhere.

I'll confess, I've never heard anything quite like it. Though it would be nice to have some music on our missions.

It does seem worlds at a pre-broadcasting technology level with a lot of magic and armies under the influence of demon lords are very much in the minority among those represented here.

That's a good thing, in my book.

Yes, the dark lords I often fight are difficult enough as it is.

Dark lords... Different word, but. Leaders of some sort of abyss or hell or something?

They're known as the Sith. They serve the Dark Side of the Force.

The Force being something unfamiliar to me, sadly. Though I'd guess my magics are entirely unfamiliar to you, as well.

Different worlds have different power sources, it seems.

Ah . . . [ obi-wan chuckles. ]

So it seems. I do keep forgetting that. This world resembles the Core worlds I'm familiar with and at times, I forget myself.

In some ways, it reminds me of the place I was before I was here - I, like a surprising number of those here, have been pulled to different worlds multiple times, oddly enough...
