004 » Video; UN: Persephone

[ This is something Persephone probably should have done a few months ago.

There is a very pink young woman on the screen. She gives a sheepish little wave as she smiles.

] Hello, my name is Persephone and I'm the Goddess of Spring back home. Yes, I'm an actual goddess, it's not just a title. Yes, I am as pink as I appear, I'm not sunburned. [ Her gaze drifts away from the camera as ticks off things that have been brought up to her. Her tone is cheerful. ] And yes, for the humans from various different versions of Earth, I am the Persephone of Greek Myth. But the stories you know are wrong...to an extent. If you have any questions pertaining to that I'll do my best to answer them.

Also, you don't have to treat me special or anything just because I'm a goddess! I'm really normal aside from the fact I randomly grow flowers in my hair sometimes. [ It's really not that random. ]

A-anywho! I'm making this post for a reason beyond that. One, I'm curious if there are any other deities from other worlds here. I've met one and spoke with another, though I believe she's gone now. If you are a deity I'm curious how being here has affected your abilities. I-if you wish to share, that is!

For anyone else, I'd like to hear about the gods of your world. If you have them.

Thanks!

Well, all gods have servants. I imagine Gozreh has elemental creatures and animals to do their bidding, for things that don't require a personal touch.

[Work in... shifts? Like a job? Do... do gods from Earth get to clock out and go home at the end of the day??]

What would they be doing if not that? Actually, what does the goddess of springtime do once spring is over?

Hmm.

[Yeah, that sounds like... normal Young Person stuff. Pretty normal person stuff in general, honestly.]

I see what you mean. A few of the gods from my world used to be mortals, but I don't think most of the gods ever had "childhoods" in the human sense. Or if they did, it was so long ago that no one could possibly remember.

It's very rare. The youngest goddess I can think of who used to be mortal ascended almost a thousand years ago. No one really knows how long most of the gods have been around, though. Some of them are supposed to be older than the world itself.

[If you believe religious scripture, anyway. Lilias is willing to bet the faithful like to embellish the legends of their favoured deities to make them seem more venerable and ancient― as though even the youngest god isn't plenty ancient enough by human standards already.]

Ah. [Things begin to be clear.] Even most of the gods in my world who used to be mortal are older than that.

[If that's how things are on Earth, she can see why a god could seem so human. The gods of Golarion are truly ancient.]

It is quite old, certainly. This world is still more advanced than the one I come from, at least in some ways. Technological conveniences are much more commonplace here, and we don't have anything like the internet in my world.

However, there have still been many powerful and advanced civilizations throughout the ages, and I believe mastery of magic on my homeworld is at least as developed as it is here, if not more. There's just no infrastructure for it to be available to the public.

[The mortal world where she hails from doesn't have advanced technology or much in the way of magic? And that is where she grew up?]

Why were you raised in the mortal realm? Is it usual for gods to live there?

[With no technology and no magic, wouldn't the world where she comes from just be full of wilderness, farms, and the occasional smelly town? That sounds far from ideal. Actually, it sounds unbelievably tedious.]

Those are other gods, I assume. What are they like?

[It's a bit strange to toss around the word "god" so liberally in a conversation with someone who, as far as Lilias can tell, very much sounds like a normal young woman. She really wasn't kidding about that. The idea of any god from Lilias's own world coming to this one at the whim of some magical moon would be utterly ridiculous.]

[That is... a lot of dogs. Perhaps he goes hunting with them? She can envision a hunting god having a lot of hounds.]

Are they special, divine dogs?

[A god having a bunch of normal dogs, just to have them. The gods of Earth sure are... unique.]

How novel... I wish I could be more enlightening when it comes to the gods of my world, but I've never met any of them, and religious studies was never really my area.

[She knows general things about the most popular deities, but beyond that it would all be conjecture.]

How very modest of you.

If you are ever curious about some other area, in which I might have actual experience, I will be happy to be of more assistance. I have a great deal of experience in doing ordinary human things, and also some in magic, swordsmanship, and the brewing of mead.

Well, magic here seems to be connected with the moons, yes? And with the elements associated with them. Fire, ice, and so on. But in my world, elemental magic is only a small subset of what someone might be able to learn. Magic can be used to conjure creatures or things, create wards, make illusions, change things into other things. Actually, it can be used for probably anything you could think of.

[She doesn't really want to get into too much detail, especially since she can't do any demonstrations to illustrate her point over a voice call.]

In my world, the gods will also grant magic abilities to their most devoted followers, in order to strengthen their influence on the mortal world.

[Magic is very useful. She highly recommends learning some.]

What about it seems strange?

[personal profile] demandsatisfaction 2020-06-10 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... it is a very small portion. You could think of it in the same way as a lord who supplies his vassals with tools and weapons so that they can carry out his will. They're not gifts so much as a means for their followers to serve them better. Although it could also be seen as incentive to ensure their loyalty, I suppose.
