Since back home I don't exist unless I'm needed.

Yes, I was needed to protect someone but that only lasts so long so I went back to not existing... Well, I ended up here instead! So it's much better than the alternative.

Well, I couldn't observe people if I don't exist. That and seeing how people react to certain things is always fun as well, especially when you tell them you don't exist back in your own world.

And really just by living did I form my preference.

There are people that don't want to live, but you who didn't have a real existence do want to live.
I suppose those of us that don't care one way or the other... do those people irritate you?

Hmm... Thinking about it, no? People are allowed to think and feel whatever they want. As long as they don't try to force that way of thinking onto me or others than really why should they bother me?
