Hello. My name is Louis, and it’s been about a month since my arrival.

This is something I’ve been curious about since arriving, so I’d like to gauge the current community:

Are you, do you know, or have you ever known a vampire?

If so, I’d like to learn as much as possible about the vampires from your worlds. While one might have in mind a vampire they would call “stereotypical,” that is undeniably a relative label, and it interests me just how widely the differences can range under what may very well now be called an umbrella term.

For example: My race goes by the name “revenants.” For all intents and purposes, I would still classify us as vampires, as we are immortals sustained by drinking blood—but perhaps you might think other criteria more appropriate for determining whether or not one falls into the vampire category? I welcome any challenges or elaboration.

Some further questions for consideration:
  • Do your vampires have fangs? Powers, abilities?
  • What kind of blood do they drink? How often? How do they feed?
  • What does a vampire’s immortality look like to you?
  • Are vampires well-embedded in your world’s history, or are they more recent?
  • What relationships do you or they have with non-vampires?
  • How have other vampires adapted since coming to this world? Are there any particular hindrances you or they encounter?
These are just a few to prompt discussion, but don’t feel limited to these questions only. This is meant to serve as a collaborative gathering of information.

As all of this may be a sensitive or even unpleasant topic for some, I want to offer full transparency from my side of things, and welcome anonymous responses should anyone wish to protect their identity. Please share as much or as little as you’d like, and feel free to ask if there’s anything you’d want to know of me, as well.

Thank you for reading.

I have no reason to fear, so I see no reason not to reveal myself. I have yet to run across anything here which could actually cause me harm. Besides, it would be rude to refuse such an earnest request for discussion.

I have always been a vampire, so I fear I cannot tell you what it is like to be turned. I can, however, tell you the method. I admit I have never had an occasion to do it myself, so my knowledge is all second hand, but it involves a living human taking in a vampire's blood as we normally would theirs. The weaker the human the less blood is required, thus it is easiest to simply drain a person you wish to transform before hand. I am afraid I cannot tell you how long the change takes. As I said, I have not done it personally, the information comes from my library back home.

How I fed myself would depend on what part of my life you want to know about. As a fledgling, I was forced to live in the shadows and take what I needed from whoever, or whatever, I could find. I do not look back upon the days of surviving off of animals with any fondness. As I grew in both power and influence I did not have to resort to such things. People would offer their life blood to me willingly simply to be owed a favor. I do not require very much from a person, I need not put their lives in danger to get what I require. In this world, I have survived off of their blood replacement pills, though I cannot say I find it much more satisfying than merely biting into some stray animal. It may work, but it is without flavor. It gives nourishment but it does not contain the raw LIFE one gets when drinking straight from a person.

As for dealing with non-vampires, I consider myself superior to humanity, though I am still able to recognize those among them who strive towards greatness. I am rather fond of their unpredictable nature as well. They are rarely boring, and if you have not discovered it yet, you shall come to know that boredom is truly the greatest enemy an immortal can ever face.
