I used to be an instructor back on Earth, so a lot of people were shorter than me. Promise it's not just words ;)

Ah, a schoolteacher. Might explain some things.

Well... kind of, but not really. It was more like a school for space exploration.

Shiro, my dude. Therion didn't know what pizza was. Do you think he has any concept of space exploration?]

For what now?

( yeah, he was almost fishing for info a little. he was thinking maybe an alien, but that kind of knocks that out a little... )

Space. You know when you look up in the sky with all the stars and the moon? That. Things that are beyond what you can see with your eyes.

[bolderfell]

Oh. Like how this world is a different 'planet,' and you can get to the moons from here. Didn't know that was possible anywhere else.

[vanishings]

Yeah, exactly that. It's definitely possible where I'm from, though I've met some people here who've never heard of it before.

[bolderfell]

Maybe scholars from my world could do it with magic, but I think I would've heard about it if they could. They're not exactly modest, those types.

[vanishings]

Do you know magic, too?

[bolderfell]

Some.

[vanishings]

Really? That's so neat. Do you enjoy it?

[bolderfell]

It has its uses, I guess. I don't really think about it much. Many people I've met have a knack for one kind of spell or another, and the things I can do aren't that impressive.

[vanishings]

I don't know, if it's a skill that you can do, I think that's pretty remarkable.

[bolderfell]

Magic's nothing special in and of itself. I know a man with even less of a gift for it than I have, and mine's meager enough. But what he can do -- and has done -- without it is the stuff of tall tales and legends alike.

[vanishings]

Maybe it's just a matter of perspective. Where I come from, magic isn't really something done. There's a form of it I've learned about since traveling through space and it's something more widespread here. I think it's something pretty amazing to have that inherent ability.

[bolderfell]

It's like any other talent: nothing without hard work to hone it. So yeah, probably a matter of perspective.

Doesn't your moon blessing give you some amount of magic here?

[vanishings]

Well, yes, some. But, it's not like I can take this home with me and it isn't something I would consider a talent.

[bolderfell]

Why not? Not like you chose your blessing, not like you don't have to learn and practice how to deal with it. How's it different from what you're born with?

[vanishings]

In a sense I suppose you're right, but I guess to me I just know it's not really mine. Sort of like I'm borrowing it?

[bolderfell]

I guess. Either way, never seems to do anyone any good, really -- either denying the gifts you've got or making too much of other people's, wherever they came from.

If I stole someone's fancy knife, it'd still be a useful tool in my pocket, even if it wasn't mine to start with. That's how I think about talent and magic and 'moon blessings' and things. It's yours while you've got it.

I guess I never really thought about it that way.

( because he's been way too inside his own head since he came here and getting these ""blessings"" that he actually hates. )
