Forgive me for asking such a question, but I'm in the middle of a project and I'm waiting for things to process. So I thought I might as well ask.

Your idea of "fate", should you believe in it. Does such a linear path bring you any comfort at all?

Or is it perhaps worth fighting against, if you aren't satisfied with your destiny?

Might as well have conversation on it.

both takes are right. and also wrong.

Destiny is not linear — destiny is fluid. You can’t fight something fluid, it’d be like fighting an ocean wave, it’s all give, until it knocks you down. But you can brace yourself for it, and if you guide yourself as it carries you, you will end up where you need to, it’s just a matter of how. Destiny never turns out how you think it will. There’s always a twist of fate — an angle you never considered. And it can go off-course if you miss your cues. Even though destiny can’t be controlled or fought, that doesn’t relieve you of responsibility. Will and destiny work in tandem, it’s two sides of the same coin.
