Forgive me for asking such a question, but I'm in the middle of a project and I'm waiting for things to process. So I thought I might as well ask.

Your idea of "fate", should you believe in it. Does such a linear path bring you any comfort at all?

Or is it perhaps worth fighting against, if you aren't satisfied with your destiny?

Might as well have conversation on it.

Don't necessarily believe in it (or luck), but the idea is kind of comforting.
Some things you can't fight against, so the idea of what's transpired in the past that isn't... for the better, I guess?
It means it was out of my control. Of course, other reasons mean it was out of my control, but it's hard to talk myself into that.
To blame something nebulous like "fate" could make it easier, if I could accept it.

It makes you wonder, though, if much like magic or things like that, fate might actually exist in other places? I don't think it's real where I'm from even though some believe in it.
Now I guess I'm rambling, ha ha. Sorry about that.

I think I'd like the idea of fate, if I didn't overthink it. It's a convenient way to abdicate responsibility for your own choices. May as well do whatever you like, if it's all going to turn out the same no matter what.

I fail to see much difference between fate and belief in any other higher power or otherworldly force that influences one's life. My personal beliefs and the beliefs of the religion I practice do not coincide; as such, I suppose the question is whether you want my answer or the one that I'm professionally inclined to give.

To know your fate is to know what you are meant to do in the world.

Not everything is fated. Even I, who has had my role and death written in stone since before my creation, still have choices. You are always in control of the kind of person you are, even if you may not always control the results of your actions.

Speakers have their own concept of fate. We believe in it, yes, but we don't think of it as black and white like you say.

It's more like...if something is meant to be, destiny will do everything in its power to see it through to the end. But it doesn't always need to happen in the way destiny imagines it. And not everything is preordained like that. You can't always jump the track, but you can steer the ship however you'd like.

Do you have something on your mind?

Many people thought they had my fate decided, prior to me coming here.

I don't think it necessarily exists, though it is possible that the idea of it dictates it happening or not happening. Power of suggestion, something to that effect. Sort of like those horoscopes you see in magazines around here. People who take them seriously enough and like them may choose to take the suggestion, or if they don't like the prediction may attempt to change it.

I chose to spit in the face of what my expected fate was, I suppose.

fate? not really. can't tell you how widespread it is but there do exist contradictory timelines of the same 'world.' like events happened differently for two or more people from the same world, and separate worldlines are the only explanation. because of bs like that I don't think concepts like fate are worth thinking about.

I defied the fate people set out for me. Even when there are many things out of a person's control, there are still individual choices that can be made.

Fate is a concept used by those unwilling or too afraid to change their future. Nothing is written in stone until it become history. I have never believed in lending credence to a concept only accepted by the weak, as I am not weak. As far as I am concerned fate, as you seem to mean it, does not exist. All is just probabilities and possibilities and those are remarkably easy to manipulate.

If you're having problems facing fate, you can call up Negi-kun! He'll set him straight! (¬‿¬)

Jokes aside, nothing's really written in stone. Even when things look bleak and inevitable, it's always best to forge your own path.

Though I admit, I really like the idea of a fated romance. (❁´◡`❁)

I do not merely believe it. Repeated evidence has shown that one's fate is predetermined, no matter the universe.

It does not comfort me.

i don't think i believe in destiny
and if it does exist then i think it's definitely worth fighting against

destiny means someone or something else is dictating who you are and how you live
so what gives destiny the right to do that
how do you know destiny is right to begin with

seems like everybody just sort of takes for granted that destiny will always be right just because it's destiny but i think it could just as easily get it wrong

at least if i'm the one choosing then there's some responsibility

In my world, fate is embodied by what we call the Great Flow. Everything in nature, all lives, and all phenomena both magical and mundane are moved by the flow, and are part of it. But it is less a set of preordained events and more a force like gravity. The path may move in a single direction, but it is very broad, and of course our own choices and actions are part of what directs it as it guides us forward.

But it is possible to utterly reject the Great Flow, and in so doing remove yourself from it. We call it "falling into depravity."

Where I'm from, they use stars to predict prophecy.

I've seen what happens when they're right, and when someone's fate is impossible to escape or control. So no, it doesn't bring me any comfort.

For your second question: anything is worth fighting for if you want it badly enough, and anything is worth fighting against if you don't want it for yourself.

Depends on which perspective you look at it from.

Maybe it's your fate to fight against and question your destiny? You don't know any different now, do you? Unless of course you somehow can see your path before you.

I used to think I knew my fate, but destiny threw a pebble in my waters, causing ripples and waves that changed the course of many peoples destiny.

You see the trick is, knowing that there are multiple paths to take, it doesn't have to be as linear as you say. Your destiny can still be the same but how you get there might change.

Wow, I feel like I typed destiny far too many times. Sorry.

Oh crap did that not send?

If I were to resign myself to an inevitable fate, that would be the same as giving up on myself. My choices efforts would be of no consequence, as I would end up at the same destination regardless.

But can it still be called destiny if a person can fight to change it?

both takes are right. and also wrong.

Destiny is not linear — destiny is fluid. You can’t fight something fluid, it’d be like fighting an ocean wave, it’s all give, until it knocks you down. But you can brace yourself for it, and if you guide yourself as it carries you, you will end up where you need to, it’s just a matter of how. Destiny never turns out how you think it will. There’s always a twist of fate — an angle you never considered. And it can go off-course if you miss your cues. Even though destiny can’t be controlled or fought, that doesn’t relieve you of responsibility. Will and destiny work in tandem, it’s two sides of the same coin.
