[The video flicks on to reveal a figure silhouettes against the red moon glowing full overhead behind them. It looks like Vanitas has somehow gotten onto the roof of somewhere and is perched very precariously on the edge, his hair ruffled. For as dim as his face is in the darkness it's clear that he's grinning widely, his teeth looking almost suspiciously sharp and his blue eyes glowing with what seems to be red.]

Hello, fellow Moonblessed! To those of you who I haven't met yet, my name is Vanitas.

[Briefly the video becomes a blur as he spins to face the moon, gesturing to it broadly as the red glow washes over him.] Where I come from this sort of red moon usually heralds the birth of beings known as vampires. But it's a shame that such doesn't seem to be the case here, you know?

[He laughs, the sound just a bit manic.] You might be wondering why... It's simple- I'm a doctor to vampires, and without any patients it's just impossible for me to do my job! And I'm a very busy man, you know... So I'd like to make an offer to all of you!

If there are any vampires here, I want you to let me test something on you! If you're inhuman but not a vampire I suppose I could still try it on you, really... So what do all of you say?

[ Germany couldn’t believe this, Italy hadn’t been exaggerating that he’d met a so-called vampire doctor. Though, in his mind he felt that it was justified to question it, he did sound rather unstable, to put it mildly. He would play along for now, if only to get the truth for Italy. There was a rather serious look on his face as the video feed flicked on and he let out an exasperated sigh. ]

So you’re the “vampire-doctor”...

[ Why, yes, he was doing air quotes. ]

[Vanitas tilts his head, grin widening even more.]

So you've heard of me, then?

[ The grin was slightly unsettling to say the least, Germany's brow raising a little. ]

Briefly, yes, though I'm not sure why you would claim to be something so outrageous.

[ As if you were really one to talk, Germany, you're a country that looks like a person. ]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

"Claim". So you don't believe me?

[ Germany couldn’t help but raise his own brow in return. ]

Is there a reason I should? It’s all mythology and legends, no rational man would expect there to be a doctor for something that doesn’t exist.

[ All of this for for the sake of making sure that Italy hadn’t been mislead. ]

[Vanitas scowls, jaw setting as he glares at the video.]

Rationality, huh? That's the most you have to combat me with? [He laughs then, tossing his head back before he looks at the video again, the red catching his eyes.]

Tell me, then! What rational reason would I have to lie about such a thing? I'm excited to hear it! Here, in this world of magic and space travel, do tell me why vampires can't exist!

[ He had been able to dismiss those red eyes initially as a video error or a trick of the light, but the second instance he couldn't pretend that he hadn't seen it.

He'd inherited a stubborn streak from his brother, this might have been a losing battle that he was fighting. He was wrong, he knew it, but he was prepared to stand his ground for now. Even if he was starting to look a little uneasy. He scoffed, though it was hesitantly. ]

Ah, well, some people are prone to exaggeration, aren't they? I can't speak for magic or what qualifies, but space travel can be explained scientifically...

[ He was grasping at straws, it was a sad state of affairs that he was willing to accept octopus-like aliens before he accepted the existence of vampires. ]

[His eyebrow twitches. Vampires hold an especially personal spot in his life- and not for a good reason- so hearing them dismissed is like dismissing everything he went through.

Even if Germany obviously doesn't know that Vanitas' irritation is pretty clear in his face and tone.]

I'm not exaggerating. If you want to remain stubborn then you're free to be an idiot on your own time, but stay out of my way.

[ Idiot? He was acting like one, wasn’t he, suddenly very aware of how full of holes his own argument was. He knit his brow falling silent before opening his mouth again. ]

My apologies, I spoke without thinking.

[ Then a sigh and a deep frown. ]

You spoke to a friend of mine who can be influenced a little too easily sometimes, so naturally I was concerned that he was being misled.

[Being suddenly apologized to certainly isn't what Vanitas expected. He's used to getting much more of a rise out of people, and in his current mood he's almost disappointed that this is all he gets.

He pouts for a moment before tilting his head curiously.]

Oh really? And just who was this friend?

[ This guy was extremely hard to read, for a moment he seemed as if he was disappointed that they weren’t fighting. He continued, at any rate, determined to get to the bottom of what he considered to be a wild story. ]

Italy. I believe you met him during the festival. He didn’t tell me anything about you beyond your...

[ This was weirdly difficult, but he would swallow his pride for the time being. ]

...profession.

[His head tilts the other direction, seeming to take a moment to recall.]

Oh yeah, him. [The one who he's still not quite sure how to read. And that bothers him... But it really isn't the point right now, so he just grins in bemusement.]

And let me guess. You thought I was a charlatan and decided to be a good friend and investigate me a little, right?

[ Something about the way he said good friend made him flush just a little, looking away from the screen before he answered. It wasn’t as if Italy being his best friend was a secret, but it was the emphasis that made him a little uneasy. ]

I’m just looking out for my colleagues, wouldn’t you do the same?

[Oh, he definitely notices that and it makes his grin all the more devious. Honestly Italy didn't even mention Germany and he had simply meant to be mocking with the way he said "good friend", but it's very interesting that he got that reaction. He'll remember that.]

I don't have colleagues. And even if I did I'm not anyone's babysitter.

[Big talk for someone who shows a lot of concern for a certain vampire back home.]

[ If only he knew what that small reaction had done, it still would have happened but he might have been more guarded about it. Or prepared for it, but truly things were weird right now. New place, strange feelings...

He frowned. ]

I'm not a babysitter.

[ He was. ]

Friends, then, if you don't have colleagues.

[ He wanted to say that everyone had colleagues, but he couldn't imagine there were many 'vampire doctors' out there. ]

[He doesn't seem to buy that, still looking amused.]

Aren't you?

[Vanitas snorts, beginning to look irritated with the direction of the conversation. Ugh, was this guy going to go into some friendship speech?]

I don't need those either.

[ He let out a sigh of exasperation. This attitude felt strangely familiar. ]

It’s not about needing them, it’s about having them whether you want them or not. Maybe it’s family, but making sure the people I care about are safe does not make me a babysitter!

[ What kind of a guy was this? Even Germany had friends. ]

[Vanitas frowns a little more.]

Getting attached to someone like that will only make you weak. At the end of the day the only thing people can rely on are themselves.

[ He could remember thinking like that before, but it hadn’t turned out to be as much of a weakness as he’d thought. ]

It’s only a weakness if you allow it to be! I used to think the same thing, but ultimately it’s turned out to be a strength.

[ A heavy sigh as he looked away from the screen again. ]

Living like that is lonely, I know that better than anyone. The only thing to be concerned about is getting attached to humans.

[He grits his teeth, the more pronounced fangs almost seeming to elongate as his irritation grows.]

Lonely? Ha! [He can't be lonely if he's always used to being alone, right? Right. It's for the best, anyway.]

Don't assume that we're the same. You don't know me!

[ What was happening with those teeth? He reacted out of instinct, trying to compose himself rapidly but the nervousness in his voice betrayed him. ]

I-I never meant to imply that we were the same, I was merely relaying my own experiences!!

[ This was a video, what did he have to be anxious for? No, it was the aura that was almost oozing from the screen. Vanitas was just a more dangerous version of someone else he knew... ]

[Vanitas seemed unaware or at least uninterested in his physical changes, more wrapped up in his own irritation.]

Tch. Well I'm not interested. Your experiences don't apply to me.

[ Distressed as Germany was by those physical changes, that managed to irritate him. While Vanitas made him uneasy, he couldn’t help but feel he wasn’t inherently bad. He knit his brow tightly, jawline tensing. ]

I NEVER SAID THEY DID!

[Typically people don't yell at Vanitas with the exception of Noé, so he looks almost genuinely taken aback when Germany raises his voice. Not upset necessarily, just surprised and almost shocked out of his own irritation.

He just stares for a long moment before gritting his teeth in a snarl and shutting off the video.]
