How do you know you love someone?

I have done a lot of research, and every answer I seem to find points me to a different place.

It's probably different for everyone, but I know for me you know you love someone when it feels like everything seems empty without that person.

Like, you can't imagine your life without them.

I did spend a lot of time without them, and it felt really empty. Living without them by my side was not the same.

But that is a feeling I have had since their creation, would that mean I have loved them for a long time?

I mean that does sound like a long time but I don't think I follow...

They were never a baby. I created them, as an adult, and that was... More than two thousand years ago.
