Has...anyone actually thought about this?

[It feels a little weird to just put his voice out on the network, but Steinbeck feels this is necessary. His voice is slow, pausing every once in a while to make sure he's got his thoughts straight.]

Look, I get it. Getting to pilot a big robot, traveling into the unknown, like yeah, that's pretty cool. But it bothers me how many people are excited for this without thinking of what might happen. You're traveling through a dangerous wasteland that will most likely have creatures that can and will kill you. You're riding in these robot things that haven't been used that way before, so there's no guarantee they'll work properly out there. And you're doing this for what? To get some information? See a cool oasis? Become big damn heroes, or something, all at the possible expense of your own life?

[He heaves a sigh.]

What bothers me most of all is how you're all willing to just do whatever those people tell you. They could say "jump" and you would reply "how high?". They practically using us for their own needs. You know, this isn't our home. For those people who want to stay here and don't want to go back, that's fine, but for the rest of us...there's no real point in doing this for a place that we don't belong to. Even if we're all special and awesome and Moonblessed doesn't mean we need to follow what these people want us to do. We're not their servants, for crying out loud.

Just...think about it. [A beat.] And for anyone who still wants to go...stay safe. It'll be your own funeral out there.

[SEVERAL HOURS LATER AFTER HE POSTS THIS POST AND GETS REACTIONS, Steinbeck updates his post with a text addendum. I'm sorry. He's this petty.]

You know what, I did what I could. If you're all this eager to just go and die, please at least film it to send to me because I really need something to laugh at

I find it insulting because implying everybody who's made a different choice from yours isn't thinking critically is insulting. So write that down.

[ "Sorry if you're offended" is never a good defense. This dude's a gem. ]

I don't care if it's not my planet, and my getting home is literally life-or-death important. I'm not going to leave these people in a lurch if I have the ability to help, which I apparently do. There's a lot to be skeptical of here, but... Well. If they're bending the truth about our purpose here or whatever, that's on them. I can only run with my own convictions until we're better informed. And who's to say what will and won't get us home at this point?

How's sitting around being smarter than everybody else working out for you? I notice you're still here.

See, the opener was insulting. This is just pointing out empathy, which isn't the insult that you think it is.

If it all winds up being a bad decision, I'll square with that when I get there. And if you wanna hang back, nobody was gonna rag on you for it. You're making a lot of assumptions about people's values and ability to reason, and it's hard to buy that you're interested in saving lives when the Prismals can apparently fry, for all you care.

Again, there's a better way to get your point across. I'm just letting you know.

How do you know everyone else brought here isn't, like, some kinda irredeemable jerk? How do you figure we're not all part of the con? Why afford everybody brought here the benefit of the doubt without granting a crumb of that to the Prismals? Sure, maybe they're lying, but maybe they're genuinely asking for help and lack ideal circumstances in which to do it.

I'd rather run the risk of getting played than watch a planet die through my inaction. You don't need to convince me to help you, you just have to ask. If that's dumb to you, then... Y'know. Whatever, I guess. Being good is more important than being right.
