Please do not trouble yourself with concern.
It is important to give information when it is asked.
With no voice to speak relaying such can often be difficult.
The most comfortable way would be the easiest for those who seek the information.

Problem with that is that the person seeking the information might have their own issues too. Someone who's... I don't know, blind, for example, wouldn't be able to see any signs or written words, but for someone who's deaf those would work just fine. Then if you have someone who's hard of seeing AND hard of hearing, it becomes way more complicated.

The answer depends on the audience, is what I'm getting at I guess.

I'm also the sort of person that says use whatever you feel is best. Conversation isn't always about the exchange of information but sometimes just companionship.

sign language is an option someone's suggested already, but that'd probably require the other person to know it too.
your best bet might be to just use your device you're using now as a kind of notepad, yo!
it would be the easiest solution.

Everyone does not know sign language?
It may not be as useful as first considered.
Does using the device not require the contact details of the other, for a private conversation?

((ooc: I absolutely don't mind them interacting at all! They can be text buddies with an eventual reveal if you'd like :D provided you're okay with writing that aspect of his character, I think it could be pretty fun!))

In person ... you don't have to exchange contact details if you're just going to respond to someone; say, a person on the street asks you for directions. Just type something in your notes, and show them the screen. Each dialogue or response would take a few edits, but this way, you don't always have to obtain their contact details if you don't want to. Does that make sense?

I think text would be the most convenient and portable, the second being gestures and pictograms if necessary, and then paper. Nobody really uses slate and chalk anymore.
