In person ... you don't have to exchange contact details if you're just going to respond to someone; say, a person on the street asks you for directions. Just type something in your notes, and show them the screen. Each dialogue or response would take a few edits, but this way, you don't always have to obtain their contact details if you don't want to. Does that make sense?

I think text would be the most convenient and portable, the second being gestures and pictograms if necessary, and then paper. Nobody really uses slate and chalk anymore.
