[ There was a long pause between Dave's response and this one, as the Hollow Knight read through Grimm's conversations with others. That took a little while, but what really struck the Knight was the words The long-dead Wyrm.

Its Father was dead.

It had assumed so, as so long had passed, and its sibling had come to save it. Surely, if He had known things had reached the levels they had, He would have come to it. Perhaps to free, more likely to kill, and maybe, just maybe, to look at it tenderly one last time before He did either.

The Hollow Knight stared at the words for a long, long time, and then hung its head, switched back to its conversation with Dave, and responded. ]

That is Grimm.
He is a strange bug and a stranger moth, but he is a good person.
It is true that he is a vessel, too, but different from the vessel you speak to.
There is no god housed here, and the one that was contained was defeated by The Knight.

No, it musn't think. Not even of him. Instead, it could try to clear up misunderstandings.

It wasn't the Hollow Knight's place to correct people on what they thought. It couldn't (~~mustn't~~) think; Dave was entitled to do so. So if Grimm wasn't a strange bug to him, then Grimm simply wasn't a strange bug to him.

(It hopes, wherever Grimm's child is, that they are happy, and knows that their father is alive and well.) ]

The Knight is a sibling to this vessel, and therefore also a vessel.
They have a personhood and they are to be celebrated for what they are.
This vessel has no person to speak of, and therefore cannot refer to itself with such language.
Apologies if this has been confusing to read.

[They almost missed the lack of orange, simply because their own home didn't have any either. When they did notice, it just hit them as kind of an obvious thing.

Though they now wondered what exactly might happen if the Hollow Knight saw too much orange at once...

[ There was... something. Not quite pride, but warm and happy, and a sensation of having done something good. Something helpful. That it had learned to communicate with the people here before its sibling had was a cruel joke -- their sibling was at least a person.

Rather than dwell on that thought (do not think), the Hollow Knight showed it how to get a capital letter by pressing the right buttons, and how to lock it into a capital-only keyboard. Their sibling would have been able to do it themselves it was sure; they were smart and adaptable, but it wanted to give it the information it had.

And while it was doing so... why not write a message to show it, and to communicate it as well? ]

You do not have to do that if you do not wish to.

[Carefully, they set to learning this skill. Or, two skills, perhaps? It wasn't that tricky, really, but they wanted to practice. First they tried that button labeled "CAPS LOCK".]

In person ... you don't have to exchange contact details if you're just going to respond to someone; say, a person on the street asks you for directions. Just type something in your notes, and show them the screen. Each dialogue or response would take a few edits, but this way, you don't always have to obtain their contact details if you don't want to. Does that make sense?

I think text would be the most convenient and portable, the second being gestures and pictograms if necessary, and then paper. Nobody really uses slate and chalk anymore.

[ The voice was compressed, mechanical, and had no inflection in it at all. It didn't sound as good at the Hollow Knight had hoped (do not hope) it would, for its sibling's sake.

It shrugged, and went back to typing, with the device droning out the words and mispronouncing some words. Pleesant. ]

It's not very pleasant.
