Five continents, with several stretches of islands across the seas. I've traveled to one other continent, as well as a few of those distant islands, but I'm most intimately familiar with the continent called Irillonde, since that's where my home kingdom of Vanth was.

Many races of people lived among the kingdoms in all five of the continents. It's a bit odd for that not to be the case; I've been told by some people here that only humans dwelt in theirs.

I could go on more and more, but I'd be here all week.

I am helping.

While I certainly wouldn't mind a week-long lecture about your home, that's a little much to ask all of a sudden.

It must be difficult to adjust to a place like this. Most moonblessed are human, or at least humanlike enough that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference by looking. I used to think my world was the same.

I must admit that it's more than a little disorienting. I find some comfort in observing the natives here, although even they don't truly span the range of differences I've seen in my own world.

It's natural to find comfort in the familiar. That's probably why I spend so much time at the library, or part of why.

Oh? Another scholar, I take it?

'Scholar' gives me too much credit. I study what I can, but I'm mostly a teacher who writes stories now and then.

That's still rather admirable of you; one would struggle to find many jobs that are more important.

Thank you. I can't exactly agree with that without sounding egotistical...

[Even if he thinks other teachers deserve all the accolades in the world.]

What sort of stories did you write? I'd have loved to branch out a bit more, but at least in my own world, my duties prevented me from having much time for leisure.

Short stories, and one novella. Stories with themes of dualism, the imperfection of perception and how reality is inherently uncertain... Mostly stories with a historical backdrop.

I do occasionally try my hand at something lighter, but I fear I'm too gloomy a person for that. Those who can write humor well have my utmost respect.

You would probably love my brother, then. He's a brilliant man in other respects.

One of the finest bards I've ever come across, actually.

A bard! That's an impressive career. I can write, but live performance is far beyond my ability. And some of the stories bards tell from memory are enormous.

Much of the lore in my world has survived more in the form of oral tradition than being committed to text.

I suppose you could, and people have, but that does ruin the effect, doesn't it?

As someone who loves stories, I understand wanting to hear it in its original form. But as a scholar, I appreciate lore being written down to survive the people who told those stories.

[Though a soul may perish, its feelings shall never fade away. And it helps if those feelings are recorded somewhere.]

I don't suppose we could have both.

My own late mother was a scholar of planar lore, so I suppose the apple didn't fall far in his regard.

I don't know what planar lore is, but it sounds fascinating.

Certainly your world has theologians?

[Psst, overflow post is here.]
