I will not hide my identity nor pretend these words are not attached to me. There were men who thought I committed many wrongs before I came here. One man held me accountable and spared me nothing besides a lingering death, which leads me to my question: in your estimation, are there any crimes that are unforgivable?

What a common man or woman cannot - should not - do, a king or a queen can do for the good of their people, correct? Great sacrifices are expected in battle - in war - however do you think that a ruler's life should be forfeit for them? What good can they do if they are slain prematurely?

I can admit when I am wrong, but on this...

Given sufficient conflict with personal morals any given person will act.

The key is to understand where those lines are and not push them with that specific person when you step over them.

Instead of worrying about pushing against lines or barriers, I could have rid myself of him. I had plenty of reason to do so, yet my heart led me astray.

If not him it would have been someone else.

While you could attempt to remove every single person who could possibly act against you, you would no longer be any form of royalty. All people have a breaking point and royalty only has the power that is given to them. Without any people there is no kingdom but without a kingdom there are still people.

A leader can trust no one. Is that what you are implying?

I brought peace to one city and I intended to do so with the Seven Kingdoms. With the usurpers out of the way, my path was clear. I suppose he took the throne in my stead.

After everything, the one I care about most is my son. I'm glad he is here with me.

I believe no one should trust anyone, however I recognize by the nature of being social animals, humans will inevitably end up trusting someone, which is why I present to concept of understanding where other people's lines a lie.

You can't simply act without regard for those around you and expect them to do nothing.

This does not mean you don't act, it means knowing when and where lines have been crossed and anticipating those reactions.

What I will say is you cannot guarantee the person who emptied the throne will be the one that claims it. Not everyone desires that kind of responsibility, and even if they desire the responsibility, they still need to be recognized by the people to be considered as having power. There will always be room for the people to decide they don't want or need a monarchy.

I can't imagine the Seven Kingdoms without a monarchy. Six of those kingdoms were united by my ancestor and the seventh was added through marriage with my family. What will keep them united without a king or queen?

My murderer is worthy of the Iron Throne. He could be the next King if he accepts. I don't know him any longer.

Who's to say they need to be united?

Individual nations may squabble but can you honestly say a monarch would change that?

My ancestors did. I won't say all of them were fine kings and queens, but they did rule the Seven Kingdoms for three hundred years.

I'll be perfectly honest, I don't believe you at all on that one.

If it's not a ruler deciding they have a right to rule some other place, or a ruler's relatives deciding ruling is their right instead, it's someone deciding they want more power or more money than they currently have or someone deciding they don't like that other groups religion.

War is a constant.

You can believe what you like, but I am telling you the truth. If rebellion or a battle ensued, the Targaryens quelled it with their Dragons. Their names were Balerion, Caraxes, Dreamfyre, Meleys, Meraxes, Morghul, Morning, Quicksilver, Shrykos, Silverwing, Stormcloud, Sunfyre, Syrax, Tessarion, Vermithor and Vhagar.

What use are swords and arrows when faced with a Dragon?

And clearly succeeded since you had to reclaim the throne rather than have it given to you.

People will try to take what isn't theirs as often as they can manage.

That was thanks to the nobles. They betrayed their sovereign.

Did that all by themselves did they?

With no support from any armies or commoners?

You forget that every noble has a small armed force of their own. If they gather together, they could be formidable forces.

And those armed forces are presumable made up of people.

Since swords and arrows are still relevant I doubt there's any serious technological warfare in play.

Your world has advanced from swords and arrows, I take it?

Sometimes they're used for sport, but in terms of war, well beyond them except for some highly specific scenarios.

What does "well beyond" mean? Are the weapons you are accustomed to using present in this world?

Think: kill millions with the push of a button, weapons that could allow a small child to kill dozens of grown men.

A lot of the weapons I've seen here are similar, but far more advanced.

I have my own weapons from home with me, mine are a nearly two hundred year old design and still one of the best.

I'm not sure anyone should have that much power. Are you planning on killing so many people?

When one person has that power every one wants that power and it eventually settles into a stalemate where everyone tries to settle their bullshit by backing smaller countries in their disputes.

I don't believe I'll reach the seven digit mark, my skill set is meant for an individual level, but I intend to kill as many as is needed to achieve my ends, if it means need to kill myself or the man I love, I'll simply do it.

Some might find your ambition disturbing. What are your ends? What do you hope to accomplish that is more important than your life or the life of someone you love?

That is a secret I'll take to the grave. Perhaps one of my co-conspirators may share once it's done, but ultimately I don't expect I will live through it.

All anyone need know is that I am a monster who intends to destroy their maker.

For a man to have your focus, something horrible must have happened to you.

I'm a monster too.

You still feel too much, you question your actions and regret them. You've got a way to go yet.
