I will not hide my identity nor pretend these words are not attached to me. There were men who thought I committed many wrongs before I came here. One man held me accountable and spared me nothing besides a lingering death, which leads me to my question: in your estimation, are there any crimes that are unforgivable?

What a common man or woman cannot - should not - do, a king or a queen can do for the good of their people, correct? Great sacrifices are expected in battle - in war - however do you think that a ruler's life should be forfeit for them? What good can they do if they are slain prematurely?

I can admit when I am wrong, but on this...

I don't understand.

Anyone can justify anything within their own minds, even the most horrific crimes, so forgivable and unforgivable actions are entirely a mater of perspective.

Even the concept of crime itself is just a perspective.

When this is mixed with the concept of a 'right' to rule, the capacity to justify is vastly expanded And tends to create a lovely list of reason why the common people rise up to execute them.

There are a lot of things that are unforgivable, no matter who it is that's committed them. Being forgiven, being spared for what you've done... I suppose it truly depends on who it is you need it from.

I wish I could provide more insight and helpful input. While this isn't the same situation I'm going through, I'm rather curious what others might say. I will watch this post with utmost curiosity.

I thought I didn't need anyone's forgiveness. I was certain I was right. Now...

I'm not sure how I feel. Losses are a given - I mourn the dead - but if my enemy hides themselves behind a shield of commoners, how am I to react? Am I to give them another chance to strike me?

My enemy hid herself behind peasants and commoners. She thought if she surrendered I would show her mercy. However she was the sort that would have used my mercy against me. I let my Dragon light the streets and buildings on fire. I was told I killed thousands.

But I also killed her.

Unforgivable crimes are dependent upon your view of the world and, perhaps, your world view as a whole.

However, in my own world I came to find my privileges in the world didn't, in the end, distinguish me from anyone else in the world, even when those people were my family of those I considered friends. I was easily disposed of and / or replaced if I misbehaved or did not do as they wanted me to.

Even worse if you threaten the very things that build their world and their opinions.

So, I suppose, it would depend on the details. If you're inclined to share them.

If a king is slain prematurely, he was not a very good ruler. Being a strong leader that can lead your people to victory is part of the job description. If they make a bad decision, that's their own fault. Dressing it up as "doing it for their people" doesn't change facts.

That being said, if that person were to see the flaw in that logic, there shouldn't be a reason for them to die.

But that is precisely what a monarch does. They have councils, of course, but, in the end, it is their decision that rules one kingdom or seven.

I think it's possible for a leader, or even a group of leaders, to do something they think is good for the people but turns out to be a mistake or a misguided action in the end.

But no one is perfect and even leaders are failable. The problem becomes when the leaders are called out for their actions and refuse to listen and continue to insist they were the right all along.

I don't think anyone's life should be taken for a mistake, but there is a fine line between competent leadership and tyrany.

I was right in slaying my enemies. I was right in seeing to the incineration or cutting down of the forces that opposed me. My kingdom could never be safe if they lived.

Part of being a queen is being able to read your enemy. She would have never shown me mercy if I let her live. Yet she wanted me to spare her?

It's not a matter of crimes being unforgivable or not, but of crimes being forgiven or not. There are people who can forgive anything, and people who can forgive nothing, and most people fall in-between, in one way or another.

If you're asking if what you did was unforgivable, ask yourself if, had it been done against you, would you forgive it? If it was done against the people or person that matters most to you, would you forgive it?

There's no ultimate judge. You're only responsible for your own choices. It's a good thing to know why you make those choices, but most people don't bother, anyway, so you alone decide if that's important or not.

It might be difficult, though not impossible, to find others who share your world view. What those men you speak of may not realize is that in war not even the most noble come away clean. War isn't won without sacrifice. Wars are death and laying waste to those who would see you dead. To rule over people isn't easy either. There are always hard choices to make, no matter your world view.

I regret killing so many innocents, yet I ensured peace in one day. My men survived and my Dragon survived. I considered that a victory.

I can only presume we come from very different worlds. Where I am from, many societies no longer have rulers or monarchs, and if they do, they are simple figureheads, a cultural relic.
