[Morning of the Eighteenth of October] [un: redkey]

Well this is new.

[The video shows Kairi looking mildly perturbed, turned slightly to her side so she can properly show off her new additions.

A massive pair of white wings.]

It's a good thing I own a couple backless dresses. But I somehow don't see what this transformation has to do with Halloween. I mean, unless the moons want me to go as an angel or something. Anyone else have these?

And, if so, can you fly with them? Cause that'd actually be really cool.

Either way, I'm clearly only gonna have these for today, since the three-moon phase is almost over. Kinda weird for the moons to give out a special transformation for only a day, isn't it?

Well, whatever. If anyone sees a girl flying around like a maniac later today, don't be too worried. It just means I got these wings to work. Gonna go try them out now!

[And, indeed, she will be findable testing the wings out during the day.]

"Then I can catch you! I'm good at catching things." Well she WAS a carnivore. Best not to think about it too much. "It will be easy. Especially if you hold your wings out wide and slow your fall down. If you're moving more slowly you're easier to catch!"

She bumped into a few things while they were walking but it really didn't seem to bother her. "I could also hold you up while you practice using them. You can figure out how to get lift that way."

So she was counting on Koishi to keep her from turning into a red smear on the pavement.

There were a few misgivings in her about that, but Koishi has carried her around before. She should be able to trust her with this.

"I'll try on my own first. So where do you think we should start?"

"Okay! You should start somewhere open and flap them some and see what they feel like and how hard you have to do it. That's what baby birds do when they learn to fly. But they do it from the trees. But baby birds are lighter and have clingy feet so they wont fall. So you should do that on the ground probably."

Sound advice, certainly.

"Alright, so find someplace with a lot of space to move around in..."

Kairi being Kairi, she elected to head for the beach.

Once they got there, she spread her wings out as wide as they would go and started walking around, flapping them. With every downward flap, she could feel them pushing against the air, trying to lift her, but without a bird's hollow bones, she was far too heavy to get the lift she needed. Still...

"It feels like I'm trying to jump with my back."

Koishi had vanished upon arriving at the beach only to reappear with a pair of soft serve cones. Beaches required ice cream. No exceptions. She offered one to Kairi.

"I wouldn't know. I don't have wings and I can't look into your mind to share the physical sensation. I can feel how strange you think it is though." She took a big bite of her own ice cream, drifting up and overhead making a few little happy noises. Strawberry seemed to be one of her favorite flavors.

"You're a lot heavier than a bird. You're gonna need to flap hard to fly. Or..." Koishi's eyes seemed to focus for a moment, the little youkai looking thoughtful. "Could you use magic to help you fly? Maybe make wind or make yourself lighter? That might help you get more lift!"

Well she wasn't expecting that, but she takes the ice cream. Hey, strawberry. Looks like Koishi remembers she likes fruit flavors. She takes it and starts licking as she listens to her advice.

"Magic, huh? Well, I do have wind magic, actually. It's not precisely my best element, that's Light and Water, but I'm not bad at it. I usually use it as an attack, though..."

And she didn't want to batter herself with wind.

"Hmm..." Koishi was going around her ice cream quickly to keep it from melting. "I suppose it does depend on how you use the magic. If you could make wind swirl around and under your wings it might give you an extra push. Is your magic flexible like that? Sometimes magic is easy to change but sometimes it's really hard." Not to mention it seemed How how Koishi used magic was entirely different from how Kairi used it.

"Do you want me to pick you up? If we get moving fast enough you should start gliding. Especially if we find an updraft. Or you could try flapping harder and faster. But that's using a lot of energy while flying."

"I'm not actually sure. I've trained so hard in using it for combat I'm not really sure how else to use a lot of it." But now that Koishi broguht the idea up, she did think it ought to be possible. It was going to take some experimentation, but she was fine with that.

"Lemme try this... Aero!" Pointing her Keyblade away from the two of them, she called up a swirl of wind that might actually help... But also sent a bunch of sand rushing up into the air.

Good thing she'd pointed it away from them and their tasty, tasty ice cream. "Maybe this wasn't the best place to do this after all."

Koishi jumped a little at the sudden sandstorm, drifting to one side and kind of away from the wind. "Ohhh! That is really amazing. I wish I could do something like that!"

She took another big bite of ice cream. "Maybe. I dunno. If you get closer to the water you wont pull up sand like that. Or we could go where its grassy. Whatever you think would be better. The wind might pick up some water but your feathers seem waterproof so it should be fine."

Kairi couldn't help but laugh. "All the things you can do, and you get excited by that?" She was a little tickled by it, though. Koishi, who could mess with memories, fly under her own power, and who knew what else... Impressed by her being able to summon a little wind.

She raised a good point about moving closer to the water, too. "Yeah, that might work. You really think these are waterproof?" She stretched her wings out again, looking at them curiously. "I wonder what kind of bird these came from anyway."

"Yeah! I've never been any good with the elements. I can make a few sparks and start a campfire but that's about it. Even the moon doesn't really help all that much." Right. Wasn't Cordis supposed to get ice powers or something?

Koishi followed Kairi toward the water, taking a big bite of the cone. Already she had nearly finished her cone. At least the conversation kept her from getting an ice cream headache. "Umm. Probably. The texture of the big feathers seems glossy or waxy. So at least they probably wont absorb water all that easily. So the ocean spray should be just fine. I dunno about going into the water though. That might not work so well."

"Besides, all the big white birds I know of are okay with water."

Kairi wouldn't know, she focused so hard on her Keyblade-related magic that the only moon-related power she'd even bothered with was Iris's regeneration.

Which, honestly, probably made her concerns about falling kind of moot.

"You know a lot more about birds than I do." Most of her studies of animals leaned more in the direction of those under the sea. "So I shouldn't try to swim, but using wind over the water should be okay, huh? Well that's helpful."

Licking at her ice cream, she walked out into the surf, and cast the spell again, this time right in front of herself. The resultant plume of water made her a little nervous, but she elected to jump into it anyway.

It was like she'd been tossed aloft. Her wings flared out almost of their own accord, completely unaffected by the spray of ocean water. She felt almost as if she was being held up there by them.

Even when she started to descend, it was at a pretty slow speed. Kairi's eyes widened as she realized what she'd just pulled off. "I'm flying... I'm flying!"

"I like to eat birds. And feathers make good stuffing for beds and pillows and blankets. When I lived on the mountainside we would go out of our way to kill as many birds as we needed so we would have enough down to keep warm when it snowed."

Koishi followed Kairi to the shore, licking her fingers. She was actually taking her coat and skirt off. Just in case either of them fell into the water. She was wearing button shorts and it didn't look too out of place on the beach.

She was removing her second shoe when Kairi cast the spell, Koishi tumbling a bit in the air before shooting up after her, dipping down and around Kairi, leveling off just under and to the side. She was ready to help out if anything went wrong.

"It's great, isn't it?" The little youkai was all smiles. "I can't wait for you to learn all sorts of neat flying tricks! We're gonna have so much fun!"

Kairi just... ignored all the chatter about killing eating birds. One, she wasn't really a bird, and two, it's not like she hadn't devoured plenty of fish in her time, and yet she wouldn't try to eat a mermaid.

Sora would be terribly upset with her, for one thing.

At any rate, as she balanced herself out and did her best to catch the wind beneath her with those wings, Kairi laughed in delight. The feeling was so freeing, so delightful!

Granted, she was still sinking, but pretty slowly. She definitely wasn't in any danger of hurting herself when she landed.

"I'm feeling pretty great just doing this right now!"

Koishi glanced down. They were kind of straying far from the beach at this point, and while there was no real worry as of yet, if they kept trying to go straight the wind was going to keep pushing them and it would eventually result in hitting something. Either the trees further up on shore or some deep water though the latter was probably preferable since Koishi could fish her out if need be.

The little youkai sped up some so Kairi could hear her more easily. "You're doing really good Miss! Try to turn. Shift your weight a little bit. Nice and slow." She sounded lucid. "Try to make a wide spiral."

Koishi had a pretty good point. She was heading out into the ocean right now, and if she just kept going the way she was, she'd get out to depths that were dangerous even for her.

Fortunately, she had plenty of time to fix that. Banking her wings a bit, she started to turn herself to the right. Slowly, gradually, in a wide, open arc.

"How am I doing?"

"You're doing really well! Once you get good we can go fishing like this. We can use a net and catch a whole bunch and bring them home. I like fish." Koishi glanced down. They were getting lower. They would probably make it to shore at their current rate but better safe than sorry, right?

"The wind is working against you in this direction. Do you need some help? You could also use your magic again if you get too low. You could try flapping too if you feel comfortable." Even if Kairi lost her stability Koishi would be there to catch her.

As slowly as they were drifting, Kairi knew she had enough time to think it over. What would be the best way to approach this...

"I'm gonna try flapping!" She answered. Worst case scenario, she'd lose a little more altitude than she wanted. Besides, that was something else she really needed to practice, and it was way more likely she'd be able to pull it off than trying to boost herself with a mid-flight spell.

So, she breathed deep, and pushed her wings down. She rose up, but with her wings now down she could feel the air wasn't pushing her up anymore. Quickly, she snapped them back out. It worked, but the action was so quick, it sent jarring pain through her.

"Okay!" Koishi quickly turned in the air, keeping her eyes on her friend. Even if she wasn't really poised to do anything special, Kairi knew how quick Koishi's reaction time was. It was fairly clear she was ready to grab her at a moment's notice should she fall.

"You know if you get really good at flying I could teach you to play danmaku. I bet it would be lots of fun. You're already good at magic so it wouldn't be too hard for you to learn how to do it. Besides, its a lot of fun. We could also teach the other two how if they ever learn to fly. I bet that would be really fun, don't you?"

"You mean that magic game that you and your friends play back home?" Gritting her teeth as she waits for her wings to stop sending pangs of pain to her brain, she tries to concentrate on what Koishi's saying, if only to have something else to think about.

"Is that really something you can just teach someone?"

"Well, of course. It's designed to let anyone duel anyone on a fair playing field. It's not hard to make danmaku. It just needs to be non-lethal. People express how they feel by making beautiful patterns and dazzle their opponent while trying to hit them. It's better than fighting to the death and it gives weaker humans and youkai a fighting chance against the stronger ones when there are disagreements." A pause. "Also, it's really fun!"

Koishi glanced over at the shore. It was gonna be tight. She drifted over and under Kairi, drifting up and providing extra lift but only a little bit. Kairi was still flying under her own power and they were still sinking. But far more slowly than before.

"I don't want you to land in the water." She clarified. They would certainly make it to shore like this. "Do you want me to help you land or do you want to try on your own?"

"I just don't know how to make magic that's set on stun. Or that personalized, for that matter" That was the best analogy she could come up with, anyway. She could just cast first-tier magic, but the fact was, that was only non-lethal because it was weak. And it was just like anyone else's spells of the same type.

But they had other things to consider, as Kairi's one flap hadn't been nearly enough to get her all the way to shore. Fortunately, Koishi was there to give her a boost.

As to the issue of landing... "Uh, I might need some help, seeing as I've never done it before and I don't want to twist my leg or something."

"I'm sure you'll figure it out. Humans are very clever. I bet you'll figure out all sorts of interesting things to do with magic like how you used wind to fly. I bet you'll figure out ho to do all sorts of interesting moves like hover and dip and turn and fly really really fast!"

Koishi sounded extremely confident. She believed every word.

"Alright. I'll help you land. Don't lock your knees and try to land on the ball of your feet. It's better to fall than it is to hurt your leg."

They were over the beach now. Koishi turned mid air, tentacles sliding out to wrap around Kairi's torso. The little youkai dipped quickly forward and up so she was behind Kairi, supporting her with those tendrils and forcing her to angle herself more upright. That brought her wings up, increasing drag, and making her fall far more quickly, but have less forward momentum. She was supporting Kairi some and making the landing slower but not taking all of her weight. Kairi would still have to land on her own albeit much more easily than if she was unassisted.

"I can't take too much credit for the wind thing. Sora's used it to leap into the air more times than I can count, and he can glide around without wings. I'm still not sure how he does that."

If she could figure it out, then combine it with these wings... well, assuming she gets them back next transformation, that would make flight downright easy.

But first she has to figure out this whole landing thing. Listening carefully to Koishi's advice, she moved her legs up a bit so she could point the front of her feet downward as Koishi had suggested. With Koishi's help, she shifted to the point where she was basically standing up in midair, wings spread wide to catch the wind as best she could.

As she came down, her toes brushed the sand and she lifted them up a bit, worried about injuring them. The bottoms of her feet made contact next, and she basically ran herself to a stop until her momentum exhausted itself, then stood there with her eyes wide open.

"I did it..."
