Hey, so, I don't know my birthday.
(If you want to know why, click here for all the bg info you need)
How do you pick one?

How do you pick one?

I've never really thought about it
If it makes other people happy I think it's fine
Someone told me that their lucky number is the day they were born
But doing that won't work if you're trying to pick a birthday
no subject
I'm picking late April sometime but I don't know what date
no subject
7 and 8 are lucky
April is nice. It's a good season
There's good weather and the flowers are blooming
Um
Is there anything in your name that could help?
I got my name because I was born in the winter
So the other way around might work too

[ She attaches a photo of her head, her hair making it obvious where her name came from. ]

I see
Green is a nice color
It suits the springtime too
Mmm...
The only other thing is not choosing the same birthday as one of your friends
But you've already narrowed it down a lot
How are you going to celebrate your birthday?
Once you pick one
no subject
I don't know, I've never done it before. I know I need cake, and someone is going to clean my shower for me.
no subject
But you should celebrate a lot if it's your first one
Um
I can play happy birthday on the guitar
Probably

I haven't been playing long
But I'm in a band
no subject
are you one of the shiny ones or the rappers?
no subject
Neither, I think
My band isn't famous
And I'm not an idol or a rapper
no subject
I like rock
no subject
I'm not as good as him
But I could play a recording of one of our songs for you

[It takes him a minute or two to figure out how to get a recording from his phone to his communication bracelet, but once he does, he sends over an mp3 file of one of his band's songs.]
Did it work?
This is the first song we played together
It's okay if you can't understand Japanese
no subject
I'm learning Japanese (trying anyway lol, total other planet) but I still don't really know anything but basic-basics
What's your band's name?
This is closer to the sort of stuff I like than anyone else here so far. The stuff I listen to usually sounds a little more angry than sad but this is really good.
no subject
That's the name of our band
Uenoyama-kun wrote the song and I wrote the lyrics
He's the really good guitarist in the song
Thanks. I'm glad you like it
I like music like this too
It's a special song to me
But if you only know basic Japanese, how can you tell it's sad?
I want to know so I can get better at expressing myself
Is it my singing or the melody or both?
no subject
I'm not really a musical expert, but it just kind of sounded that way? The tone of your voice and the way the song was slow but still had kind of a forward-flow to it, like you were feeling pain but still marching forward. It felt familiar or Like it connected, I guess? That probably isn't much help... I know someone who plays violin who would probably be able to explain it better.
no subject
No...
It's really helpful
Thanks for thinking hard enough about it enough to write all that
I'm really happy
But you're right, it's about trying to moving on after losing someone
It's a song about someone important to me
Someone I couldn't say goodbye to
So I wanted to convey those feelings through my singing
I'm glad it meant something to you
The lyrics
I'll type them up for you sometime
no subject
Btw I know your band's name and your guitarist's name but not yours?? What is it
no subject
Thanks
I'm Mafuyu Sato
Nice to meet you
no subject
You too!
Send me more songs if you have them
no subject
Mafuyu is fine
It means midwinter
You want to hear more?
[Honestly, he's so excited...]
We're still a new band so I only have one more
But I'll send it to you
[And as promised, he sends a second song over.]
Um!
I have my guitar here
I'm still not very good
But I can play for you sometime if you want
no subject
[ And that's all she says for a bit because she's listening to the next song. About 5 minutes later she texts her review. ]
I like that one too. It's still melancholy but it feels like maybe there's more hope to it. A year ago I probably would've thought something like that was lame but I think I've kind of started to understand it.
Well, I could be totally off though since I'm just going on feeling...
no subject
I didn't know as much about music before this
But I think it's important for a lot of reasons
You're really sharp...
Yeah
It's about how we don't always know what's ahead
But have to try to keep on living
I would have thought it was lame too
But things changed, I guess
Music is important
I want to keep writing songs
Thanks, Emerald
