[ The video comes on and it appears to be neatly propped up on a desk. He's spinning a pen between his fingers. It's clear he's sitting at a desk, given by how much you can see of him. He's never posted to the network before. ]

A couple of you may know this, but I am a manga-ka at home, and obtained a physical copy my series about a month ago. Not long ago, I did get a publisher and I'm able to get additional prints of it so that I do not have to lend out my only copy.

[ But that is only partially the point of this post. ]

I'm in the process of developing a new series. There's only so much to work with within my own experiences. I've drawn many pieces of scenery here, filled up sketchbooks with pictures of Prismals and Moonblessed alike.

[ He sets his pen down on his desk, and stops playing with it. ]

So that's where I come to you. I'd like to hear stories about your life prior to here. Whether that is an interesting story or fact about you or the world you come from.

[ Oh, yeah. ]

And, one more thing. I guess, since I'm feeling generous. If anyone would like to see if I drew them - just let me know. I'd recommend posting a video. I draw what I like so there's no guarantees, but it's possible.

[ ooc; i'm happy to have had him draw p. much anyone who would be spending regular time at the park, especially if they sit still for a few minutes when there since that's where he draws most his inspiration from! ;) ]

You have a volume of your manga from home?! I'd be interested in a copy, if it's not too much trouble to reproduce! And if you make a volume of your new work, I'll line up to buy a copy of that too. ...It's not much in the way of repayment, of course, but I can happily swap a story or two if you're after them. Goodness knows that I've certainly seen enough to manage at least one half-decent story.

Shall I tell you the story of the gambler I met in my travels, and his enchanted chips? Or, perhaps the seemingly sentient ghost ship? I'll let you choose!

Wonderful! I just hope that my story's worth anything to you, since I know your work will be to me.

In my travels, my friends and I were desperately searching for a particular mansion in a particular city. ...Which would have been infinitely easier if the mansion wasn't built in the typical architectural style that almost every other building in the city had! Still, it was a mansion, so someone must have seen it and remembered where it was! We ended up in a bar trying to gather information, especially if someone was gently tipsy and loose-lipped or the like.

Instead, we met a gambler. He promised that he would give us the information we wanted, as long as one of us won a game against him. All fair enough, since none of our number was a true mental slouch (and my best friend, in particular, was especially good at cheating and sleight of hand). ...Unfortunately, as we discovered when Polnareff (who is here, if you've met him, but if not, is criminally hot-headed and impatient) lost the first gamble...

The price was one's soul. Snatched clean out of its respective body and stored in a gambling chip, as a trophy of sorts. The number of chips this man had amassed, along with thier stories and the sheer detail he recalled for each and every one...Was haunting, I won't lie. Displaying one's victims like a serial killer, proudly boasting of how he would taunt a victim's loved ones into trying to win their soul back and ensnaring more and more people...It's enough to make me queasy, just remembering it.

Not even my best friend, the one best suited to gambling, could beat this man. His soul was lost as well, and it was only two of us left. I'm not exactly suited to gambling, given that I'm a little...Emotionally volatile under pressure, and actually tried to beat our friend the gambler a few times! So it was left to a 17-year-old boy, which isn't my proudest moment.

My soul was wagered. The boy's mother's soul was wagered. A friend of ours, recovering in the hospital and not present at the time, also had his soul wagered. And still...Jotaro's impressive poker face and critical thinking made sure that none of us became chips. Even though everyone in the bar was on the gambler's side, even though the dealer was on the gambler's side, the gambler lost in the face of sheer confidence, and was forced to admit defeat without ever seeing the absolutely horrendous hand my friend had been dealt. A man who had beaten numerous gamblers before was mentally broken by a teenage boy with a stone face and a fistful of dud cards!

I've never been prouder of him, I won't lie. I almost had a heart attack the entire time, even if I trusted Jotaro's every choice, but...He saved all of us. Didn't get the information we were after in the end, since the gambler was a babbling mess by that stage, but at least we were all together again.

I hope that wasn't a completely terrible story, ha!

Ah

Yes! You know him, then! I'm really happy to hear that...Maybe I'm overstepping here, or at least assuming far too much, but I hope that you know him as a friend. You're both wonderful people, after all!

Just don't play cards against him, would be my suggestion.

Friendly acquaintances is still better than enemies, right? I'll take it!

...I guess I'm not surprised that he continued helping people in trouble, either. I don't suppose you're in the mood to share that story, since you have so many responses to this post?

[personal profile] nonehorse 2019-11-16 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[The worst part is that as soon as he reads 'family business', Avdol can feel his stomach drop. Oh, he knows. He knows. That means that Rohan possibly knows. That everyone possibly knows in the future.

...It's still not his place to say anything, however. So say nothing he does. Besides, there's...There's something a little more pressing, at least as far as Avdol's concerned.
]

That sounds truly awful, and I'm more glad than words can convey that it was dealt with so efficiently. All those poor victims...Lost lives for one man's whims. Are the strange things less harmful these days? I truly hope so...

As grim as it sounds, it does appear to at least be more realism for your writing, which is a sliver of silver lining.

I take it you're a Stand User, though! How interesting! (And if this makes no sense, feel free to disregard it! I'm assuming on the basis of your interacting with Jotaro, since we all have a way of attracting each other!)

[personal profile] nonehorse 2019-11-17 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! So your Stand assists with your work...That's even more fascinating, to be honest! And also efficient.

If I might be so bold, you're both immensely creative and a man of incredibly little wastage. A finely honed machine of a person, and I mean that as a compliment of the highest order.

Have you...Written about, or incorporated your experiences with, this vile human being into your work?

[personal profile] nonehorse 2019-11-19 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
wait

can I ask who asked for pictures of a serial killer? I

I understand if that's personal, of course, but. That's just...Strange.

[personal profile] nonehorse 2019-11-22 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Understandable, forgive my asking. I'm relieved, actually...I'm sure that whoever asked knows that they could trust you with this knowledge.

And when you word it that way, I almost want a picture of him too, just so that I can help if he ever comes here. No matter what sort of Stand this killer might have...He won't last long against Magician's Red, you have my word.
