If he was out to make more of his kind he'd probably be stockpiling food instead of gobbling it up. I know they don't pop out of the ground fully formed either because he used to be about the size of a hamster. Now he's more like a very small cat.

Look my roommate's some kind of healer, I'll ask her about it. Doubt she can do anything but can't hurt I guess.
