[ after an embarrassingly long time spent figuring out the functions of the communication bracelet - look, it's a lot to take in all in one go - wei wuxian types out a message that's equal parts honest inquiry and throwing things on a wall to see what sticks. ]
my respectful salute to everyone reading this. my name is wei wuxian, from the yunmeng jiang sect. i have some questions and a request, if it pleases.
[ okay, the manners part is done. wei wuxian can now go wild. ]
from what i've been told, moonlacing is the practice of creating chroma. it requires at least two willing participants, and physical contact is involved.
how much contact is needed? would exposed skin touching covered skin work? how long does one need to be in contact with their moonlacing partner in order to succeed in creating chroma, what's the bare minimum? how exactly is it stored, and can you learn how moonlacing is done? has anyone succeeded in moonlacing by themselves? are there limitations to moonlacing? does it still work if your partner is unconscious, or otherwise unable to participate due to injury or some other misfortune? how quickly can you lose chroma, what's the quickest that anyone's ever drained their reserves?
i have so many questions!
anyway, my request is this: would anyone be willing to help me test the answers to these questions by moonlacing with me? i'll be more than grateful for the help!
thank you for your time!

has anyone ever exerted themselves to the point of losing all their chroma? do you know anyone who has, or has come close to it?
wait, can you learn abilities here? what sort of abilities are we talking about?

I've never heard of anyone being completely drained, but if you neglect moonlacing your body will begin to crystallize and solidify. I assume something similar would happen, or at the very least one would have no energy left to move or do much of anything since energy is tied into the amount of chroma one has.
The moons grant a small amount of magical power, with each one being different. Nothing very potent, though... Being able to make small sparks or heat something up, that sort of thing. So if you have any preternatural powers from your world they would likely be more beneficial if you're in a tight spot.

aah, the questions just keep piling up!
and that's disturbing. the crystallizing part, i mean. you become a glass statue if you run out of chroma? that sounds really horrifying!
[the part about being gifted new powers, though - wei wuxian files it away for further study. so far people have said moonlacing isn't quite like cultivation, but what if wei wuxian managed to adapt it anyway? it'll be a game changer for all cultivators present!]
what sort of powers were you gifted, then? would you show me?

[Mostly he just doesn't want people to get the wrong idea and try to get emotionally invested. He's only kissed someone without warning once... And to be fair the other guy started it.]
That's why it's important to do at least the bare minimum. But you'll be so exhausted and useless before you get to the crystallizing point that you might as well be dead already.
Hmmm that depends. Do you have anything interesting to show me in return?

[fair game. wei wuxian's open to suggestions, within reason - and he's more than curious to see where this might go, too.]
and anyway, wouldn't you prefer to like the person you're moonlacing with, even a little? a bit of common ground can go a long way for many things, surely moonlacing counts among them.

I don't particularly care as long as I can tolerate them and it's mutually beneficial. Even if it feels good is it really worth it to become to attached to anyone here when they can vanish at any second?

is there no one that you like, even a little?

Now now, I don't kiss and tell.
[Now he's just being a brat.]

and mister, you're being a tease now. the girl must be so lucky.
