[ after an embarrassingly long time spent figuring out the functions of the communication bracelet - look, it's a lot to take in all in one go - wei wuxian types out a message that's equal parts honest inquiry and throwing things on a wall to see what sticks. ]
my respectful salute to everyone reading this. my name is wei wuxian, from the yunmeng jiang sect. i have some questions and a request, if it pleases.
[ okay, the manners part is done. wei wuxian can now go wild. ]
from what i've been told, moonlacing is the practice of creating chroma. it requires at least two willing participants, and physical contact is involved.
how much contact is needed? would exposed skin touching covered skin work? how long does one need to be in contact with their moonlacing partner in order to succeed in creating chroma, what's the bare minimum? how exactly is it stored, and can you learn how moonlacing is done? has anyone succeeded in moonlacing by themselves? are there limitations to moonlacing? does it still work if your partner is unconscious, or otherwise unable to participate due to injury or some other misfortune? how quickly can you lose chroma, what's the quickest that anyone's ever drained their reserves?
i have so many questions!
anyway, my request is this: would anyone be willing to help me test the answers to these questions by moonlacing with me? i'll be more than grateful for the help!
thank you for your time!

You named a chicken 'da ji'? Really? And you say my names are bad.
I should be there in a few minutes. And I'm not bringing the dog. I don't want you scaring it away.
[Also he doesn't want it scaring you either. Also yes, good, don't tell him you were trying to break the fountain...]

[he doesn't have to mention that there's a better chance of him just running away at the sight of the dog, no matter its size or breed, than his scaring it off with some imaginary horror that only jiang cheng can come up with where wei wuxian's concerned. some things, tragically comedic as they are, bears no need to be spoken out loud for the sake of everyone's dignity.]
try not to scare too many people on your way over, jiang cheng!

What kind of a comment is that?!
[That was really his last reply back as he made it the rest of the way to the park where he had assumed WuXian would be by the vague description. He was right at least. There was a rather familiar person there, just significantly younger.
But as he walked over of course WuXian was going to notice that Jiang Cheng was not a teenager anymore. He was now in his mid-thirties and dressed more how a sect leader would be]
Wei WuXian.
action;
[wei wuxian exclaims with the ebullience of someone who's just really, sincerely happy to see someone. he has a short list of people who he reserves this side of himself for, with shijie at the very top; jiang cheng would hate to know that he's a very close second. still, it's a short distance, and wei wuxian readily throws himself onto jiang cheng before the strangeness of his brother's appearance sinks in.
jiang cheng is older. his frown lines have etched themselves into his face, and his robes are no longer the pale lavender wei wuxian is familiar with, but the vivid purple of the elder disciples - of shifu, if wei wuxian had to name the color by the person who wore it most.]
Sect Leader Jiang, [wei wuxian corrects himself, his voice gone small suddenly.] You— Shifu— How long has it been?
action;
His face did have more frown lines in it. He certainly did enough of that. Age, being a sect leader while still basically a child, and raising his orphaned nephew had all contributed. As well as events that this WuXian did not know and Jiang Cheng found little pleasure in wanting to tell him honestly. Let him be oblivious a little while longer... as much as possible.
Which was made more difficult by his next question]
It has been about 17 years now.
action;
it's soon, then. it'll happen soon, and it'll happen suddenly, because the lines in jiang cheng's face are the lines of someone who hasn't lost the anger of grief.
wei wuxian reaches for jiang cheng, hesitates twice, and then pulls his brother close at the third attempt. his hold is warm, firm, but not constricting; jiang cheng is free to loosen himself from wei wuxian's embrace if he chooses.]
I'm sorry, [he murmurs quietly. he always assumed they'd have more time.]
action;
He was kind of lost in thought that he missed the two failed attempts for a hug, but then WuXian was hugging him again. There was something oddly familiar about it. Things hadn't been bad when he was from. They were getting there, but they hadn't yet.
After a moment, he put his arms around WuXian as well, hugging him back]
Thank you. It's something I've come to deal with.
[But he's not going to give WuXian a chance to dwell on this right now. If he could go back in time and be oblivious for a while, he can't say he wouldn't take it. So he can let him be oblivious as well]
So where is this chicken of yours?
