Hey! This is Max, though probably most of you don't know me. I've been kind of a lurker on here for the most part. But I wanted to ask a question of my own, if everyone's cool with that.

So here goes, I guess:

I know some of us seem to have some powers during our particular moon phase, but I wanted to talk about possible powers you guys might have had before coming here? Back in your own world.

Specifically though, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with manipulating time, and any possible consequences you know of that came with using that power. First-hand experience or otherwise, either would be useful.

[Well, he's not wrong about the second part. Probably. But she'd still use her own time powers all over again if she was faced with the same circumstances, wise or not.]

Why would it be unwise?

If science fiction is to be believed, if you change one simple thing, the ramifications can be huge and impossible to rectify.

Simply put, it would not be worth the risk of making one's situation much worse.

That's probably true for a lot of things, but I can think of scenarios in which someone would probably be willing to take that risk. Like if someone you loved was in danger?

You can't change the past.

( That being said, he has other, more personal, hangups. )

so you wouldn't, even if you were given the chance to save someone's life? and you were the only one who could do it?

[Everything about this is personal for Max, as much as she's trying not to make that completely obvious. These aren't entirely hypotheticals. Or they hadn't been, for her.]

Why would I be the only one who was capable of doing so?

( There's nothing special about him, after all. )

[Good question. Max wishes she knew the answer. She's becoming aware though that going down this line of "hypothetical" questioning is probably Too Much for this conversation. Too heavy, too close to the truth, and too personal. So she's going to brush his question off.]

Because life is crazy and so is the universe? I don't know, I'm just asking questions.

[Not a lie, but not the entire truth either.]

( The hypothesis is getting them nowhere, so Edgeworth tries a different tactic: making himself (somewhat) vulnerable in order to see if it will make the other person do the same. )

There are many things I wish I could change about the past. But I cannot, so it is useless to dwell upon it. It has taken me a long time to accept things the way they are now, and I do not want it all to have been for nothing.

I guess that's a pretty healthy way of looking at it. But it's harder to accept something when you're worried it might have been your fault, the result of something you'd done that caused something really bad to happen, that hurt a lot of other people.

To be honest though, even if it was my fault, I'm with you in that I wouldn't change it. I made a choice and the results were both good and bad, but the alternative wasn't really an option. At least, not for me.

[Maybe if it had been up to someone else, even a Max from another timeline, they may have made a different choice. But it had all been in her hands. She wasn't willing to sacrifice one person just on the gamble that maybe it could have saved a lot of others.]

Just because something is difficult to accept does not make it impossible to do so.

When you say you had a choice, however, I take it we are not talking strictly in hypotheticals any longer.

You're right, about both things. There are choices I made that may have led to something awful happening. Isn't that the reason most people want to mess with time? To stop something awful from happening, or to change it?

Indeed. Yet, as I mentioned previously, there is a possibility of making things even worse. Does that not worry you?
