Hey! This is Max, though probably most of you don't know me. I've been kind of a lurker on here for the most part. But I wanted to ask a question of my own, if everyone's cool with that.

So here goes, I guess:

I know some of us seem to have some powers during our particular moon phase, but I wanted to talk about possible powers you guys might have had before coming here? Back in your own world.

Specifically though, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with manipulating time, and any possible consequences you know of that came with using that power. First-hand experience or otherwise, either would be useful.

Thanks!

i had a goat named max a long time ago, probably got eaten by darkspawn when we left lothering

anyway where i'm from, magic is more about physical aspects of the world, like nature or the elements or the human body, so i can talk about that. there's been theories and studies done, but as far as anyone knows, time magic isn't possible

that being said, the inquisitor and company evidently did something time magicky not too long ago, so you may get a better answer for that out of them

Hello Max, that's a rather specific power to be asking about, isn't it?

Time manipulation is not possible. Even if it were, to do so would be unwise.

I've thrown some magic spells around about every other Halloween, if that counts.

i don't know if i'd say that. so far none of them recognize me as myself, they seem to know a different person in my place.

[ chin up, kid. at least the multiverse Maxes are recognizably Max, right? Hawke is still dealing with the existential "here's another Hawke, he's supposedly you but beardier" crisis. ]

well, if something ever rips open an enormous magical hole in the sky, maybe their theories will bear fruit too. evidently stranger things have happened.

Nope. Real ones.

Back with my crew, we had a wizard show up round every Halloween. He usually owed money to the mafia. Or the yakuza. Think it was yakuza the last time.

[it's too bad you can't see how blank-faced he is right now, max. he's not joking.]

i'm sorry this is so goofy LMFAO

[personal profile] spah 2019-04-25 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I think he'd owe a lot less money to the yakuza if he did.

Why the interest in time travel?

i did hear it was raining demons for a while, but i wasn't in the immediate area at the time it tore open so i can't say for sure. smaller holes started opening all over the world after that, but i don't think they caused any storms either.

have a lot of experience with unusual weather, i take it?
spah: (your stone walls turn my blood)

excellent

Oh, lotsa kinds. Invisibility, fireballs, making the fella in front of you tiny... Merasmus has a knack for coming up with a lot of magic-based schemes around every Halloween, when he owes money to some criminal organization or the other. Almost a tradition now.

Well. I can't say anything for sure about time, but I don't see why it couldn't. We figured out teleportation where I come from. That's more science than magic, though.

Uh... Okay, I'm familiar with both time travel and stopping time, but I don't know how to do either myself and the mechanics of time travel especially are just bizarre where I come from. I don't even know if you want to hear the explanation.

[After all, she can't exactly just say "heart nonsense" and have it make any sense.]

yes, they were actual demons.

sorry, that sounds too academic for me, i don't know anything about abstract or theoretical magic. there's spells that can affect the weather, i could cast a storm in a local area and enough mages together with enough lyrium might be able to extend one over a city, but i wouldn't know how "time travel" would connect to that.

Time magic is a very powerful and useful ability. Strategic applications of Haste and Slow can make or break a battle! There are also applications to allow retreading of failed actions, finding the right path.

Skills like concentration also fall under time manipulation and skilled execution of that skill can alter the outcome of serious and tense situations.

So far I have mastered those practices, but I'm always looking for new skills to learn.

[Sadly she was misunderstanding the situation a little bit.]

depends on what you mean by 'manipulating time', doesn't it?

you mind giving an example?
