Hey! This is Max, though probably most of you don't know me. I've been kind of a lurker on here for the most part. But I wanted to ask a question of my own, if everyone's cool with that.

So here goes, I guess:

I know some of us seem to have some powers during our particular moon phase, but I wanted to talk about possible powers you guys might have had before coming here? Back in your own world.

Specifically though, I'm interested in knowing if anyone has any experience with manipulating time, and any possible consequences you know of that came with using that power. First-hand experience or otherwise, either would be useful.

Well, the stopping time one is simpler. You have to be a really powerful mage to pull it off, and even if you are it usually tires you out something awful when you do it.

As for time travel... well, just to start, you have to give up your body to do it. And if you don't already have another version of yourself waiting on the other side? Like if you wanted to travel back to before you were born or forward to after you die? You're out of luck.

That actually makes some sense. Sounds like maybe it's sending your consciousness forward or backwards to give you control of that time's current body?

[Max's whole photo-focus power sort of works like that too.]

Yeah, that's pretty much it exactly! You caught on way faster than I did.

Of course, I was also having to deal with the fact that the person doing this could also possess people, but that's another issue entirely.

To tell you the truth (and I don't want a lot of people knowing about this so it has to be a secret), I have first-hand experience with that kind of ability, so that's why I knew what you meant right away. Not possessing people tho, I've never heard of that and it sounds totally creepy.

But magic wasn't a thing in my world, like it was always just fiction. And science definitely hadn't advanced far enough to explain my time travel abilities, so that's why I had to keep it secret. One of my friends thought it might have something to do with wormholes, but it all kind of goes over my head. I like science fiction but I'm no scientist.

That explains the post. Honestly, I was kind of wondering but I wasn't sure how to ask. I'm guessing at least a few people are thinking the same thing, just so you know.

Anyway, I don't know if your powers work the same way as the ones I'm familiar with. Did you send your... "self" out of your body and then go back or forward to another place where you were? Or did you just like... stay in one place and change the time you were there, like in most of the time machine movies I've seen?

yeah, I was trying not to be obvious about it but I figured some people would probably catch on. but it was a risk I was willing to take in return for getting more information. I'm just not planning on outing myself completely yet.

okay, my powers kind of work in a few different ways? that I know of so far, but I haven't used them since I got here. bear with me because I'm not sure how good I'm going to be at explaining this, I haven't really gone into depth with it with anyone before.

so, back home, the one I used the most was my rewind power. and that let me rewind time around me while I stayed wherever I was, with the knowledge of what had happened. I could rewind for about up to a minute? but the further I went the harder it was, and sometimes it would give me headaches and nosebleeds. there were a few times I even passed out afterwards. anyway, that one didn't include sending my consciousness back or anything. in fact anything I had on my body would stay with me, and I'd be in the same physical place as I was before I rewound.

the power that I was reminded of with what you've said is one that I only did a few times, and it involved photos. I think I just needed them in order to focus on that specific time, as long as I was present at the time the photo was taken, but I'm not sure. I would focus on the photo and send my consciousness back to that moment in time. I could stay there for several minutes, and even manage to change the entire timeline. after those minutes I'd be sent back to the time I left plus the minutes I'd missed, so it's like time was still going even while I was away.

Okay. That's... a lot to take in, so gimme a moment.

The first thing you're talking about, I don't think I've ever heard of anything like it. Neither the time stop spell I mentioned nor the version of time travel I'm familiar with look anything like it. So there's nothing I can tell you that would be very helpful aside from obvious stuff like "be careful how you use it".

As for the other one... it sounds a lot like the time travel I know, except that from what I understand the version I know of lets you stay as long as you want, as long as you still had been there in the past.

I guess it makes sense that things would be really different. What surprises me is that you can do this at all.

sorry about that. it's just the first chance I've gotten to talk about my powers with someone I feel like I can trust who also has at least second-hand experience with this sort of thing already.

and don't worry about me using them recklessly or anything, because I don't use them anymore. period.

maybe it really did have to do with the photos then. I know that there was a limited area in which I could move around too while I was in the past.

and it's super weird, I know. I only discovered I had these powers recently, before I got here. it happened really suddenly.

I'm guessing the recent discovery of these powers didn't exactly go well for you.

I don't know much about your situation, and I can't really tell you much about using powers like that, or not using them. But I can't imagine you got those powers for no reason.

I can't say it went smoothly... but I'm glad I did discover them, even if I'm not using them anymore.

The situation is totally confusing and kind of fucked up. It all started when I saw a girl get shot and killed in the school bathroom. Then suddenly I was back in class five minutes earlier, and when I got to the bathroom again, I was able to rewind time and save the girl... Who, as it turned out, happened to my best friend I hadn't seen in five years.

Okay, wow. I was not expecting that.

Well, I'd have done the same thing in your case... best friend or not, if I saw someone get killed right in front of me and I could do anything about it, I wouldn't even think about it.

Pretty intense, I know. My whole life got pretty intense after that.

There was a storm, just before I ended up here. And I kept having these really vivid visions of it coming, days before it happened, like maybe I was connected to it somehow. Anyway, that's where all the questions are coming from.

A storm? I don't know how time powers could have anything to do with that, but then again, there is the butterfly effect.

And I guess what you did would have ended up being a bunch of those piled on top of each other.
