I have...something of a strange dilemma. I came here six months after my birthday, and arrived six months ago...but my birthday is in June. Based on actual length of time I've been alive, I just turned nineteen...but my birthday isn't officially for another half a year.

Do you think I should just go ahead and start listing my age as 19, or would it be to confusing for the people who know what time of year I was born? I know I've already told a few people I'm a Gemini, so waiting would be simpler...but it feels a little weird, going an extra half a year between birthdays.

It's the first one for me, but I moved around a lot when I was younger. It makes it hard to think of a new apartment, or even part of town, as 'home'.

Of course, it didn't help that the apartment I'd just moved out of was only big enough for one person, and I've been thinking about looking for a roommate for a while.

Oh, yeah, that's just bound to make that feel even less important than it already does.

Personally I prefer the smaller space I have now to where I lived back home, though I guess I might feel a little differently if I ever get a roommate.

Even the starter apartments are more space than I'm used to having. I used to live in a one person apartment in Tokyo and I didn't even have room to fit a couch in there.

I think it's kind of nice...especially since I tend to binge shop during Cordis.

... Okay, I've heard of how big Tokyo is from other people here, but that's just nuts. That sounds less like a one bedroom apartment and more like cheap hotel room. Is space really that much of a premium where you're from?

It didn't even really have a bedroom, so much as an area my bed happened to be in. Larger apartments do exist, but I didn't have the budget for them...and yes, space is at quite a premium. Especially since there are laws barring buildings adjacent to houses from being above a certain height, so that people's homes don't end up completely deprived of sunlight because of towering apartments boxing them in.

Well, that explains why you could fit a couch in, but even so the way you're describing it I'm surprised anyone can afford a house.

[ There's a pause, then she shakes her head.]

Well, okay, I guess obscenely rich people live everywhere. Still, the amount of money to have a house in a city like that has to be nuts.

It's easier if you're willing to accept a long commute. Areas further from the heart of the city have more affordable houses, but most people who live near anything significant have apartments.

Of course, most people who have to worry about rent work full-time, instead of trying to make things work on a part-time budget while they try to work around studying for school.

... And now that you mentioned that last part, I really have no idea how you could've managed that. I mean, I know you're a detective so I'm guessing you were making more than most people our age but even knowing that it still seems crazy that you were able to manage that.
