[It takes her a moment after the camera comes on to start talking, as if she was slightly delayed.]

Hello.

[After her brief greeting she looked down a bit as if unsure of what she was exactly saying. She didn't really plan this well.]

There is something I want to do, but I'm lacking a bit in ideas. I want to celebrate someone's birthday, but, what is normal for doing that?

I know giving someone something they like on such days can generate maximum affection points, but, this may be different.

People vary so much that a conclusive answer is difficult to get without just asking them. ... which is extremely ill-advised.

If I asked him, he would say something like he was unworthy... I think.

[She makes a face.

Okay, that's about as unhelpful as Patchouli is being right now. It's a very displeased face, because there goes the easy solution.]

So, even less useful, then. Uh, I guess, do you know anything about his hobbies?

[Nanami tilted her head to the side thinking. It felt a little bad that she didn't know more about him, but then, he had been hard to spend time with.

If she had put more effort....]

He enjoys books... I think, and... Hope.

You don't know him that well...? [You are weird, Chiaki. Like, really weird.]

Mm. But that's... a start, I guess? Maybe he'd like a book, but I don't know how much more of a suggestion I can give.

I suppose I don't....

[She can't help but sigh a little.]

But, this is a chance to do better. And really, a suggestion at all is very appreciated. Thank you. There isn't really a convenient way to collect items and then just give them every time there's a conversation, so having a starting point is very helpful.

Well, I'm glad I could be of... er, some help, I guess? [She tried, okay. She's just kind of unsure she did much of anything.]

I believe so. But with living things it can feel a little complicated, there are a lot of things I still need to learn.

Are you some kind of machine?

[She leans in toward the camera a bit, as if trying to look a bit more closely for some sort of physical evidence of her being some kind of mechanoid or something.]

Regardless, you are correct, humans are a difficult and confusing species, often.

Hmmm... no, that isn't quite right.

[How did she put it? It was still a little weird being able to talk about it.]

I was... created within a program. My father and brother made the foundation of what would enable me to... wake up?

So, you're... some sort of artificial intelligence, physically manifested in this world? That's even more interesting, actually.

That would seem the case.

[It was a little hard to conceptualize, while she did understand what she was and where she came from, it was a bit at odds with... well, what made her who she was. She had never been able to talk about it before, and talking about it still felt off. It didn't have to be a secret, but it didn't quite feel right.]

I don't know that much about it though, and... this situation is a bit strange.

[Patchouli is only technologically literate about stuff "normal people" would readily have access to, so this doesn't really make a lot of sense to her, but it a. sounds right; and b. is only about as weird as all the other things she's experienced ever, so no biggie.]

That's fine. I don't suppose I need that many details, but it's at least kind of interesting to consider.

I don't mind sharing what I can however. Given some time I may have a better concept as well. The more data the better I will be able to process it.

[She was a self learning and evolving AI after all.]
