[It takes her a moment after the camera comes on to start talking, as if she was slightly delayed.]

Hello.

[After her brief greeting she looked down a bit as if unsure of what she was exactly saying. She didn't really plan this well.]

There is something I want to do, but I'm lacking a bit in ideas. I want to celebrate someone's birthday, but, what is normal for doing that?

I know giving someone something they like on such days can generate maximum affection points, but, this may be different.

Some people might not like a lot of fuss for their birthday, and others might like to be the center of a lot of attention. Before any of that, though, would you mind telling us a little bit about how you think it might be different? That could end up being important.

True, and I doubt he would want a fuss.

Living people are unpredictable, and though you can get to know them, it isn't the same as how you might generate stats. If someone in a game likes blue flowers the best, you can just give them blue flowers every time you see them. People, I feel, are different.

Indeed, it is not. Such a thing would never be helpful. That sort of celebration is for something else. [ He hums. ] Why not prepare a meal to have with that person? A complete meal? To eat with someone, to share a time when you are able to enjoy something that you created while thinking of that person... a marvelous present for you and them, yes?

[A... rough "hmmmnnnn..." as he switches the settings. When he's onscreen, he's -- pre-shifted his gaze off to the side of the screen.

Technically, there's very little "normal" when talking about cultural customs such as celebrations.

That depends on where they're from.

I could, though, I dont know how to make food.

Unless you can just throw in the ingredients into a pot and use alchemy to make it.

People vary so much that a conclusive answer is difficult to get without just asking them. ... which is extremely ill-advised.

It is a worthwhile skill to learn. If for no other reason other than to have a warm meal with someone that you like and care for.

[ That is his spiel on cooking and baking, anyway. ]

I don't see why he would not like to play video games with you. It seems like that is an entertainment that people enjoy.

[She would file away learning to cook as a skill she should try to put points into, but talk of video games always overrode anything else.]

They are very much so! They can take you to different worlds, and experience things from different perspectives. But, games in general are really fun, and playing them with others is always enjoyable.

It would be unfortunate if you got hungry while traveling elsewhere.

Oh, yes, snacks would be important, and things that can be eaten with one hand. Stopping is very difficult after all.

Mm. But that's... a start, I guess? Maybe he'd like a book, but I don't know how much more of a suggestion I can give.

But, this is a chance to do better. And really, a suggestion at all is very appreciated. Thank you. There isn't really a convenient way to collect items and then just give them every time there's a conversation, so having a starting point is very helpful.

Those are hardly hardy enough.

Hm, should I pack your meals? I certainly will worry otherwise...
