A shorter-term question is bothering me this time, and it's one that may affect others.

As far as I can compare the local calendar to the one I'm familiar with at home, my birthday is coming up soon. On the other hand, when I arrived here, I was expecting my birthday to be a good five months off.

Should I mark it now, or wait another three months? I can't decide which would be easier to remember. How are others grappling with it?

We just passed my birthday - but since it was recent back home, too, I'm waiting until next year to count it.

Assuming we're here that long.

I would be very surprised if there's any way to return people to their worlds of origin in place before then, given the amount of research and work that's likely to be involved.

No matter what I go with, there'll be this moon business to work around.

I wonder if those bracelets will still work.

That may depend on what they were designed for - something to do with the ceremony itself? Moon effects in general? The cumulative effect of all three moons in particular?

The second option seems unlikely. [And so Ren's buttwings will most likely be a factor she has to plan around at any time of year.] If it's the first, the ceremony's over, and so they likely won't have any further use. If it's the third, who's to say whether that will even happen again?

I don't plan on getting rid of mine, just in case, but I'm not sure if it'll be anything more than a souvenir at this point.

Of course, by the same token, you know what foregoing the bracelet feels like and I don't.
