A shorter-term question is bothering me this time, and it's one that may affect others.

As far as I can compare the local calendar to the one I'm familiar with at home, my birthday is coming up soon. On the other hand, when I arrived here, I was expecting my birthday to be a good five months off.

Should I mark it now, or wait another three months? I can't decide which would be easier to remember. How are others grappling with it?

We just passed my birthday - but since it was recent back home, too, I'm waiting until next year to count it.

Assuming we're here that long.

I would be very surprised if there's any way to return people to their worlds of origin in place before then, given the amount of research and work that's likely to be involved.

Maybe so, but I'm not sure if I want to have one party, especially since either way it'll be in the middle of the moon nonsense. Besides, it would just get confusing.

There's no real reason not to mark the passage of time, I'm just not sure when is the most expedient yet. Thank you, though.

Well, I guess the real question is, do you wanna be considered a year older yet?

Personally, I'd go with your world's original calendar, since that would be marking your age properly.

But I'm also used to thinking as someone who'd have to go to other worlds on a regular basis. In this specific situation, it probably wouldn't matter too much which way you choose as long as you're consistent about it.

A fair point, all told. At least the days more or less line up, so I'll have a mostly accurate count either way - otherwise I would probably just go with the local calendar and save myself a headache.

That is pretty convenient. I imagine it probably would be difficult to do if the months here were only three weeks long or something like that.

I haven't thought about my birthdays in a short eternity.

My suggestion is to just have it whenever you and whoever you wish to celebrate with would like, for the time being. It doesn't seem we've an agreed-upon parallel between time from our homelands and time here. Then again, I suppose that's difficult due to many of us coming from different places or even different times from the same world.

I rather doubt we're going to find any sort of consensus on that front, when there are so many different worlds to choose from. I was mostly wondering how to handle it for myself, and whether anyone else had had to grapple with it.

I've had at least a few moments of still thinking about what day it would be if I were still on my home world, but I don't know if that counts because it doesn't involve much scheduling.

I don't even know when my birthday is, and Lucy doesn't talk about it.

But I'd say mark it now? I know you mentioned your birthday was a long way off for you back home, but given the local calendar it might become too confusing if you wait?

Waiting just makes it five months after arriving here. It won't muddy the waters too much.

Can't say I've ever heard of someone postponing their own birthday before, though.
