A shorter-term question is bothering me this time, and it's one that may affect others.

As far as I can compare the local calendar to the one I'm familiar with at home, my birthday is coming up soon. On the other hand, when I arrived here, I was expecting my birthday to be a good five months off.

Should I mark it now, or wait another three months? I can't decide which would be easier to remember. How are others grappling with it?

Waiting a few more months. The dates match up well enough that I think I'll be less confused if I stick it out as long as I would have been expecting to without this disruption.

You mean to celebrate it on the same date, but in a different month?

Interesting. Perhaps I ought to do the same. I've never cared much about birthdays.

It's mostly relevant to me as a marker of proximity to legal age.

Twenty, in Japan.

Granted, we don't know what's considered legal adulthood here, but old habits die hard.

You would think they would have it listed somewhere easily accessible.

( Not that he has personally been worried by such things. The drinking laws, at the very least, seem much more relaxed here than they were in the States. )
