The opening of the museum here is enormously exciting, but it also has me thinking about museums at home.

I know there are exhibits about me in at least a few museums - I've never been to see one, because it feels vaguely egotistical to attend an exhibit about yourself? But I've always wondered what sort of things they have to say about me. What parts of my life are worth putting on display for the public.

If there were a museum dedicated to you, what do you suppose would be on exhibit?

It's certainly more exciting than the last school I taught at.

I can't imagine many would be that exciting. Even the ones I saw in Elona were just classrooms with books and a lecturer.

[She may have tried to usurp the Awakened teacher in one of them once, in an attempt to teach the Elonan students that their lich-king leader Palawa Joko was a terrible liar.

Running out of that classroom was pretty damn harrowing.]

Well, there was a war on, so it's not exactly what I would call peaceful... But you're right.

Constant struggles like that in Tyria are why I think there isn't much of a call for more centralized education. People learn a trade, become apprentices, join Orders, "learn by doing", go adventuring when they're old enough...

The only real exception are Asura who have the different Colleges but your average person of any other race isn't going to be smart enough to keep up with them.

There certainly were more people going to trade schools back during my lifetime. Nowadays most of those tasks are done by machines.

Like, most manufacturing is done by machines. You don't see tailors with needle and thread anymore, not unless it's a hobby.

Oh, that's strange. I can't imagine machines doing all that. Hell, I've made my own armor several times.

I can hardly even imagine all the work that must have gone into that.

I think I slept for a full day and a half after I finished my first coat. I grew up on a farm, trained animals and worked fields for most of my youth and I was still the most sore I'd ever been.

I think it's worth it, though. I find commissioned work often doesn't fit just right, whereas when I do it with my own hands I'm more likely to be aware of what adjustments need to be made before it's complete.

Tailoring for a perfect fit does still happen, but that's usually the purview of celebrities. Ordinary people wear things as they're made.

That would be terrible for armor. Ill fitting armor is a good way to get killed in it.

To be fair, most people don't wear armor...

Yes, yes, I know. My world is strange. But if you go out without it and without an escort the chances of you winding up on the business end of a centaur's pike are very high.

I'm glad my world isn't quite so dangerous as that. Unless you're a book, I suppose.

What would be dangerous about being a book?

There are creatures that are devouring literature, called Taints. They've been erasing stories from my world.

Wow. That was not at all what I was expecting.

What were you expecting, if I may ask?

Degradation, being lost and unable to be retrieved, burned or ransacked thanks to war and skirmishes...

Things that usually happen to books in my world.

Degradation still happens with older texts in my world. Of course, everything modern can be found on the Internet if you look hard enough.

Oh. That isn't a thing in our world. There are data crystals but the internet as it is here is... well, let's just say I know some Asura that would probably explode from excitement if they knew about what I'm doing right now.

My thoughts are similar, honestly. It's so far beyond what was available in my lifetime that I hardly know where to start using it.

I've had some experience with Asura tech so I knew enough that I wasn't completely overwhelmed, but I'm sure there's still functions on this thing I don't know about. Also I don't think I've touched the custom device in my apartment since I moved in. Accidentally making everything tiger striped was a BIT much.
