UN: 👋

[[An almost gaunt looking figure shuffles himself, and his fancy new outfit thanks to the festivities, in a seated position to get more comfortable. For the most part there is a metallic stopper on the back part of the wrist of a hand covering the man's face]]

These posts always made me wonder what kind of civilization I've been pulled into that we all sit around and talk to ourselves until other people do or don't decide to talk back.

[[He turns his head in what seems to be an attempt to get any knots out of it, while he speaks, eventually settling it back on the most comfortable spot on the arm of his couch.]]

Before any of you kind souls tries to gg me on being here, sitting by myself, talking into the post, I'm aware. Your humour is dry. I'm just bored and thought I'd follow the herd like every other upstanding citizen. So here I am, talking to myself and curious about what those out there, will say back.

yes. there's nothing like this where i'm from. kind of grateful for that. everyone can let out their inner monologues this way...

this is true. the instantaneous communication long-distance is pretty cool, not going to lie.
but as to being subjected to strangers' inner thoughts and honest feelings... i can't say i care that much to find out what kind of people they are. i'm not even sure i'd care that much about my own friends at home if we had this there, ha.

considering i've never seen technology like this until a few weeks ago, yes, i am normally a face-to-face person... as people should be.

but it's not so cold. i hear enough of my friends' thoughts to know i'd rather not have more of their inner thoughts broadcasted unfiltered. let alone strangers' — ruminating to anyone who will listen, just to talk to themselves... in my experience people like that like to hear their own voice but don't listen to themselves. hand them a microphone and they'll speak, hand them a mask and they'll tell the truth.
clearly i too have my own raw ideas on the matter, i can go on, because you and i are having a conversation... but i can't imagine publicly broadcasting whatever so that literally anyone and everyone can be privy to my private thoughts on my whims. it's dull. not only philosophers fancy themselves philosophers, you know what i'm saying?

i couldn't agree with your last sentence more. but the key word is "you." it's an exchange. these monologues are just floating in search of an arbitrary audience. how is that honest? it's inorganic. if i let someone inside my head, it's because of that person specifically. it's because they've earned my attention, or I've theirs. maybe coming from having been famous with an actual audience i earned, in a place without anything like this network, i just find the citywide broadcasting vapid and bizarre so far, maybe it's culture shock. i find it ironic there's such a system in a place with an economy based on touch — i guess for those who see this as an obstacle rather than a perk... but surely there's some humor in that, right? not the brand of "intimacy" i was expecting, if we're entertaining this monologue shit as "honesty."

i don't think they're lying. i just don't think it's an honest exchange. it's the communication that isn't true. not their words. they could say anything. but if they say it to the ether, to anyone who will listen — literally anyone who will listen, indiscriminately — what elicited their words, what will their words elicit, what if no one even hears their words, or they do but no one responds...? there's no context. to the mind that's dishonest in a certain light. does that make more sense? you and i are having an exchange. it's different. this is honest. even if we were lying.

no, i'm a fighter. but there's certainly a performative element to keep up in the arena heh~ have to please the public ☆
