UN: 👋

[[An almost gaunt looking figure shuffles himself, and his fancy new outfit thanks to the festivities, in a seated position to get more comfortable. For the most part there is a metallic stopper on the back part of the wrist of a hand covering the man's face]]

These posts always made me wonder what kind of civilization I've been pulled into that we all sit around and talk to ourselves until other people do or don't decide to talk back.

[[He turns his head in what seems to be an attempt to get any knots out of it, while he speaks, eventually settling it back on the most comfortable spot on the arm of his couch.]]

Before any of you kind souls tries to gg me on being here, sitting by myself, talking into the post, I'm aware. Your humour is dry. I'm just bored and thought I'd follow the herd like every other upstanding citizen. So here I am, talking to myself and curious about what those out there, will say back.

Well, you win some, you lose some. There are people who find it much easier to talk to others online than in real life. Would you prefer that over this? I think it has its charms, personally.

I actually prefer talking face to face! I grew up in a big family without stuff like this, and I think there's something to seeing how a person reacts when you talk to them.

But like I said, online has its charms. Its like you pointed out - you can just ignore what people say on here or just move on, and you can't do it that easily in person. I like it in its own way, too.

Sadly, no, but I do have some people from my world here.

[And switching to video, huh? He blinks at his screen. There's the guy from the original post, the strangely detached hand and all.]

[How interesting.]

[He switches his end to video too, and the other should see the bright, almost boyish face of Steinbeck giving him a friendly smile on his screen.]

Oh, there you go! See, you can even do face to face on here. [He leans his cheek on his hand.] Kind of better than even meeting in real life - at least you can shut your device off if you decide you suddenly don't like me.

[Its obviously a tease, based on the way he sticks out his tongue at the end, there.]

That so? Haha, if I got a dime every time someone said I was chatting their ear off, I could probably get myself a nice dinner. But seriously, I appreciate it. Thanks.

[He's definitely outgoing, a chatty Cathy, but it makes it all the better when people actually seem to like it.]

The name's John. John Steinbeck. [A beat.] And before you ask, yeah, its like the author if you've heard of him. But that guy doesn't exist in my world, so its just coincidence, really.
