What's the deal with tomatoes. They're just messy fruit full of water.

Yeah, humans eat a lot of different things. Not fire, usually, but not just tomatoes. Whatever they can get their hands on.

In that case, is there any special 'deal' with tomatoes? Merely being unfamiliar to you does not make them more mysterious than carrots or oranges.

They keep turning up in things. Just trying to understand the appeal.

Perhaps the juiciness is a draw? Similar to other fruit.

I did. Tasted a little better that way, I guess, but still didn't seem worth a meal.

You really only eat fire?

I can and do eat human food, but only for the taste. My nourishment is from fire alone.

Makes me wonder if different kinds of fire fill you up differently. Or have different flavors. Does magic change anything for you?

Indeed it does. Mundane fire tastes much different from the fires of lingering hatred and pain.

What is a 'hell'?

Where the souls of the damned go to burn for eternity or something. You know, the kind of thing where they tell you if you do bad things to people, you writhe in torment forever after you die. Not an expert, but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be on fire.

Such a thing does not exist in my world. The flames I was speaking of are something more like imprints of emotion, left in dead lands by those who once lived there and have passed.

Those turn to fire where you're from?

Indeed. And my duty is to cleanse them.

Guess it makes sense to get rid of them if they're literally fire. Still...I think it's kind of sad.

I am afraid it must be done. Their presence taints the land and prevents it from being reborn.

The world goes on, and those people who died hurting and betrayed are forgotten even by the land they lived on.

It is better that way. Too many kingdoms stand as monuments to death and sorrow, pain frozen in time, eternal.

You're probably right. It's just a lonely way to go.
