Keep the wound clean for as long as it takes to heal, and you shouldn't have any problems. I've heard that different parts of the body will take longer for that healing process to run its course, but don't let that discourage you.

Depends. Tongue is good, one of the fastest to heal. For penis, either ampallang, apadravya or frenum. All good for stimulating a partner. I have two of the latter kind. They feel good even when jerking off. For something that mostly stims the wearer, go with nipple or guiche. That's along the perineum.

Medical or implant-grade steel or titanium for materials. Barbells over captive bead rings. Make sure to choose the gauge and barbell length well.
