Konoha has used that phrase herself in Lunatia. For all the strange happenings and all the chaotic events that plagued the city between moments of peace, however, she’s only used it once. Just once.
And after she pins the kimono in her hands to the clothesline, she fusses with her apron once more... but in a far different way than before. It isn’t the embarrassed fidgeting of a woman thinking of past sexual escapades, but a smoothing over her belly. (Look, it’s not where the child would be for her normally, but she grew up with humans, she picked up their body language... and it translates better now.)]
Lunatia has played cruel jokes before... but I don’t think that’s what those weird dreams was.
[It didn’t give them hopes for things happening right now, right here. Didn’t make a woman who desperately craved a child think that it might finally be happening only to end up birthing a plant now growing by the side of her house.
But she tries not to let it sit. It’s not about that, the words just reminded her... and she forces herself to pick up another piece of laundry.]
Don’t make me kick you, Rey. I’ve gotten better at walking but I’d probably fall over if I did that.
[They’ve been over this not deserving shit, missy!!!]

[In that, Rey could never relate. It's enough just trying to take care of her own damned self, let alone someone else. The thought terrifies her, but that's probably why people like Konoha exist.]
Never been able to stay in one place for long. Ten years seems... a bit much. [She admits with a scoff.
[It's one reason why she's never settled in one place at Lunatia. Sure, it'd be convenient, but the anxiety of getting too comfortable, too complacent, only to just lose it all eventually anyway stings too much.
[Doesn't help that two places Rey had ever considered home had been decimated by biological and chemical warfare. Could the third time be the charm? Maybe. But she doesn't want to risk cursing this place too, irrational that the thought might be.
[At Konoha's threat, Rey just side-steps away with a handful of clothes. Her face blanches as she already regrets speaking those words that had been ingrained in her skull for so long. They're not pretty things to hear out loud, for anyone. Not even for those she had hurt back home, who would've had every right to agree, but for some reason didn't.]
S... Sorry. [She runs a hand down her face, before glancing down at what turns out to be a pretty cute kimono in her hand. Freshly clean and soft in her calloused hands.
[It'd be nice to wear one of these someday, if she can ever find an excuse to...]

She doesn’t know. She tries not to think about it, really, because she knows she’s not educated enough, not creative enough, to really get a grasp on the various theories that exist about whether they’ll get home, whether they’ll remember Lunatia, whether they’ll return to the exact moment they left or not...
She just keeps pinning. And noticed Rey staring at one of her cuter kimono, a rose pink with a bit of a gradient and a single hemp leaf pattern in patches here and there.]
... people in your world don’t dress like where I’m from, right?
[It seems like a better topic, as she casually just... starts pulling a long strip of loincloth gradually out of the tangle of the freshly washed pile.]
no subject
[By the time her attention tears away from the fabric in her hand, Konoha has mercifully changed the subject. Rey stops, glancing over at her and blinks.]
Oh, um. Not... really. Seen people wear all kinds of different clothes in the cities, but nothing like this. [Pause.] And... not everyone dresses like me, either. Just prefer simple most of the time.
[For all the Asians Rey has met in Lunatia, it's a shame she never ventured into that corner of the globe before. It might've been nice to even learn some of the language and the like.]

[Thankfully, the third level had clothing more the likes she was familiar with, plus a lot of the things in that laundry basket were hand-sewn with bought fabric. She considered it practice for her inevitable arrival to her husband's home, where there was no such thing as shops or merchants or tailors.]
I think kimono are really simple. I mean, you can make them fancier with nicer fabric or fancy obi ties, but... it's just four panels and two sleeves and all straight lines. Super easy.
[And looks good on most everyone! ... Well, most everyone in her world, she's seen some different body types here, but. Rey would work well enough in it, she's sure.]
no subject
[But also, yeah, she liked the clothes and the drinks better down there.
[Rey's grim visage turns amused at the mental image of Konoha dressed like the upper level Prismals, mentally agreeing that it doesn't suit her, either.]
Mm. Had a similar problem.
[Obviously Rey favors more earthy colors more than neons and rainbows. Makes her feel less noticed when she wants to blend in, even if she's in a sea of more colorful people.
[After a moment, she pins the kimono up on the line.] Never really wore anything like these before, though. Always looked like you had to put them on a certain way and didn't know how.
[She'd seen them being offered at past events, but Rey stuck to dresses whenever she could.]
no subject
Everyone says that, but I'm not sure why. It's no harder than putting on those zipper things.
[Okay, maybe a little harder, she's just biased, but. It admittedly was only difficult if you were of a higher class trying to wear kimono more formally rather than as everyday clothing.]
I could show you how if you wanted to. Next time they have one of those festivals in Amegahara or something.
[Something to talk about that isn't whether they deserve to be happy. That isn't what she's going to do if she doesn't turn back to her centaur form by Iris.]
no subject
[Most of her pants have zippers, but it's hardly complicated. Dresses are a little more difficult to put on by yourself, especially with a physique like Rey's. Finding fancy clothes for her build can be tricky, she's found. Which is unfortunate; she doesn't mind them from time to time.
[Finishing up her end of the laundry hanging, Rey glances to Konoha, a hint of a smile on her.]
Yeah... That'd be nice, actually. [Rey doesn't advertise the fact that she likes such types of clothes and social events, but how quick she accepts the offer is... telling, probably.
[Festivals, dresses, music. They're all things Rey never participated in before this place. The future she saw might just be fake memories cruelly implanted into her head like so many others here, but she could maybe try and replace them with real ones whenever she can.
[Better than drowning in the chiding noises of her head, trying to pull her back from happiness with words of what she does and doesn't deserve. It's always easier when she has distractions which, thanks to Konoha, Rey now has. For now, anyway. She'll offer her hands around the farmstead for a little while longer, catching Konoha if she falls while trying to do her normal chores.
[Eventually, she'll excuse herself back into the city. Her offer still stands if Konoha's... condition lasts much longer, but Rey doesn't suspect she will.]
2 nights later.......................
But that leaves her in the midst of an Iris cycle with parts she isn't used to... and an offer.]

REY? you awake?
i so read that in the french narrator voice.
yeah whats up?
need help at the farm again?
[Rey knows what the day is, but maybe Konoha is too distracted by Iris to get much work done.]

was REY serious about
IRIS help offer?
is not making friend relations weird?

She just doesn't know if it's worse because of being able to ask her husband but choosing... not to... ? And being a different shape? She doesn't know!!! ... oh she should say that.]

no subject

so if there is an 'etiquette' to it then your guess is as good as mine
[They can just be clueless and awkward about this together? That's comforting, isn't it? Good thing Rey can mentally prepare herself for once.]

be there soon
no subject
if mating then just
happens...
if with other person is usually
emergency...
but
need help but do not wish to bother GONTA so
please
help?
in storehouse i wait
no subject
[Either way... Yeah, she doesn't think she wants Konoha, in her very human self, to approach her very jinba husband for her Iris needs. That probably wouldn't end well.
[She mentioned staying in the storehouse before, so Rey was already prepared to make her way there. But not before she took a brief detour along the way.
[When she does return to the farmstead some time later, she has her usual travel bag slung over her shoulder, along with an additional sack attached to the side. Overall it's bulky, even for Rey -- she has to be carrying at least 100lbs on her back, but she's hardly daunted in the least when she arrives at the storehouse and knocks on the entrance.]
Konoha, you still here...? [Rather than troubling her friend to get up, Rey slowly starts to slide the door open, giving her enough time to shoot a warning if needs be.
[Probably no point in asking if she's decent...]
no subject
The dulled senses of a human body don't give her any heads up that her "guest" has arrived until Rey's voice calls out and the door starts to open. Thankfully? Konoha was at least facing away from it, but considering the straining fabric of her simple sleeping kimono, her spread knees, one hand clutching a nearby crate for balance and the soft, wet sounds and pants of breath-
That stutter into a little squeak of surprise at the creak of wood door as she hastily claps her thighs back together and falls back onto the futon mattress, shimmying her kimono back down to cover her legs at the same time as she tries to turn around and greet the other woman, her face flushed with shock and embarrassment with the violet moonlight of Iris shining in her dark eyes.]
R- R- Rey, hello- !
[So maybe she wasn't decent.]
no subject
Shit, s-sorry! [Rey starts, hands flying up to her eyes for a moment.
[And then just. Realizing how stupid that is. Considering what she's here for. But her hands still stay close to her face, her posture stiff, broad shoulders squared.]
Didn't, ah... Didn't want to d-disturb you, so I just...
[Vague gestures towards the open door. Which she's now promptly sliding shut! As if there was ever a possibility that anyone else might be passing by to notice the position Konoha is in.]
no subject
Until she realizes she's using wet fingers to do it, and instead quickly tries to wipe them on her clothes.]
N- No, it's okay- ! I just, um- Sorry, I've never-
[Well, a lot of things never, but. With steam fairly coming out of her ears, her voice lowers to a hush, squirming. At least the door is closed now!!]
Never had an Iris where I could... reach things... !
[Now she sees why humans hate Iris so much??? She's lived her life unable to do much about her own heats without a partner, but if you could do it yourself you'd... probably be really unused to controlling yourself, right? Maybe?]
no subject
Ah. Guess it would be impossible to... reach down there...
[Imagining the logistics of how a jinba would be able to satisfy their own needs doesn't help Rey feel any less flustered than she already is.]
You, um. Still want... m-me to help, though... right?
[She hooks her hand over the back of her neck, second guessing how necessary it was for her to come over at first. But, no. Iris heats last a long ass time, don't they? They're almost constant during the cycles. Taking care of it with just your hands the entire time doesn't sound very satisfying, even if it's a bit of a novelty. There are still other things...
[Fortunately, Rey came bearing gifts. It only didn't take long because she'd been window shopping before and didn't buy anything. Didn't expect that she'd ever need something like... what she got.]
no subject
She nods at first, impossible, squirming slow and anxious from being interrupted mid-pleasure but certainly not... mid first pleasure, because... she'd tried a few things, before texting Rey. She's never actually been able to test it herself, but-]
M- Moonlacing makes the heat die down better than just... doing it by yourself...
[And while her fingers had provided very fleeting bouts of relief... It wasn't anything actual satisfactory. The only thing she can compare it to is that period during the dragon's breeding season when no matter how many times she'd pleaded with Gonta to mount her she'd been left wanting, even after he literally didn't have a single round remaining in him. Then, the solution had been their friend Mikuni, with the rune that matched up to the one on her own skin, and just one time with him had been such a relief...
So-
So she bites down on her lip with newly dulled teeth, nodding again in affirmation that she wanted help (from someone who... could actually fit in there without sending her to the hospital), still glistening fingers creeping down her leg to slowly pinch the kimono fabric and start slowly pulling it back up her leg.]
