So, I turned 17 today. I completely forgot that was going to happen. In my defense though, my birthday is usually in March and it's only now because it was September instead of May when I arrived in the last world that pulled people in that didn't live there.

... Anyway, for something those of you who haven't known me since before I showed up here might be interested in, does anyone want martial arts lessons? I was training a couple of people back in the last world I was in and it went pretty well there, so I figured I should probably start that up again.

For now compensation is negotiable, since I don't know how many people would even be interested in this in the first place and money here is... weird. Days of the week, time, and how often the lessons happen are going to depend on just how many are interested, but I'll let people know sooner rather than later.

Not that she's focused on that for long though, because her attention goes to the other thing.]

[He's used to setting up stuff like this, having worked at the local Junes in town and was often the one organizing displays and whatnot. It was almost second nature to him at this point.]

[ Videl's eyes can't help but widen a little as she reads his message. At the same time though, she can definitely see how he made it to that conclusion. She's about to go ahead and tell him that it wasn't going to be like that, but she stops herself.

Sure, she still loved Gohan, but it's not like they had even gotten together before being brought into Duplicity or when he left Duplicity and well, it's been months, no, almost a year since she saw him. There was no guarantee she would ever be reunited with him again. Should she really be forcing herself to not date on the hope that she'd see him again? Besides, a single date and going out weren't the same thing.

... On the other hand, she'd probably be telling him about Boo. And Cell. And god forbid Duplicity came up.]

It's... probably not a good idea this time. For a lot of reasons.

[ There's a quick pause, before she continues. She owes him at least more of an explanation than that.]

I... I'm not going to lie, the last place I was in really messed me up when it comes to things like that.

And even ignoring that, most of what I have to tell you about where I came from alone is going to kill any romantic mood pretty quickly. And if that somehow doesn't? Anything I mention about that last place definitely will.

[He can’t help the small look of disappointment as he reads the first line, but she’s nice about it and as she shares more of her reasoning, it’s very easy to understand. It also reads quite similarly to a conversation he had with someone else. It’s a hunch, but it couldn’t just be a coincidence either, right?

this other place... i might know a little bit of what you mean? i wasnt there, but its not the first time i heard about it. you dont have to go into detail though, if its the same place. not if you dont want to but talking about it might help, even if i dont share the experience to fully understand.

basically, what im saying is that why dont we have that chat over dinner and simply play this by ear. no dating, just getting to know each other and we can figure out from there whether anything romantic will even happen or not. you’re a really cool friend and if thats all that happens, its ok!

[He rereads what he wrote several times. He’s not sure he conveyed all he wanted through text, face to face would be easier, but he hoped it was enough as he sent it.]

[ She's a little shocked to hear that he has some idea of what she's talking about, but considering everything she really shouldn't be. After all, there were a ton of them from Duplicity here somehow, so it'd make sense that he'd come across at least one of them already.]

[ It occurs to Videl as she was sitting in Yosuke's place after eating that... well, she hasn't really talked about Duplicity much to people who haven't been there. Other than the brief mentions to Amanda when she first showed up, anyway. But even that wasn't really all that much detail.

She has a half eaten burger sitting in front of her, turns out this subject doesn't really have her being super hungry at the moment. Still, there's really no putting this off, and she really should talk about it with someone and after her reaction to Yosuke's date comment she really owes him an explanation. So she takes a deep breath, and begins to talk.]

So, uh... I guess I should start with asking you more about what you know about it? I mean, you heard it was called 'Sex City', but did the person you talk to go into any more detail than that. Because it was... much more messed up even discounting that part.

[To be honest, it wasn’t exactly an easy topic eat around for Yosuke either. He was nervous and anxious, he didn’t know what he was going to hear. But he also wanted to give Videl his full support on hearing this out and making his own decision on it. But hebwas pretty certain this wouldn’t change much in his eyes.]

No, he didn’t. He didn’t know too much because he didn’t really want to say something that wasn’t his to tell and I didn’t want to pry. But uh, yeah, I kind of figured that name was downplaying it massively. You don’t have to go into too much detail if you don’t want to, just whatever you’re comfortable with.

[ Okay, dang. That made things a bit... more difficult to explain it. But there was a bunch of the context for how fucked up that place was that she kinda had to go into detail on.]

Okay. So... not only was it a place that they insisted on people having to have sex multiple times a month, but the society there was split into two social classes. One of which was... well, basically had everything, and the other that had nothing. And those of us who were sorted into the first class were required to take in someone of the other class. Basically as a slave, for all intents and purposes. Sexual or otherwise.

[ She pauses, clenching her fists for a moment before shaking her head.]

A lot of us just... made the contract that we had set up for it basically be as open as possible, but even just having to do that was... well, obviously fucked up.

How does that even-!

[Yosuke shook his head, looking a little distressed and confused. How does that even work on a societal level? One gets everything while the other gets nothing? So you have to go into slavery? Slavery itself wasn't some new concept, he remembered that much from school. But he was pretty sure it was never that black and white about it.

From her words, it sounded like she had been part of the group that had everything and it sounded like she and others tried to make it as best as possible for those who didn't. But that was definitely still fucked up.]

And there was no way to stop that kind of practice?

[They couldn't just go along with it just because, there had to be a reason, right?]

It's a little hard to overturn something like that when you just suddenly appear there out of nowhere. [ Or not so suddenly considering that the whole reason they were there was because of some device that they supposedly didn't know how to shut off. But that's not really the point.]

Those of us who were brought in really wanted to try to do something to overturn it, but for the most part most of the people who were born in Duplicity just... didn't see anything wrong with the system.

And if we tried to just say... overthrow the government or something outright, they could just stop us by turning our powers off. Trust me, if they hadn't been able to do that, when I and Gohan first arrived, they would've been overthrown as soon as we figured out who he would've needed to stop.

[Yosuke looked down at that, silently pushing his food away as he crossed his arms. He knew she was right. It would be like if they, the Moonblessed, suddenly tried to overthrow Lunatia. They had powers, but could they really do it? And what about the Prismals? He sighed.]

S-Sorry. But I-I believe you, that you'd have done something if you could. It's just... it's tough to wrap my mind around, y'know? Not that I don't believe you! Just... yeah.

[Ugh, such a lame way to say that. But it was true. It was hard to fully grasp and understand since he was never there. Even Lunatia had some bounds of normalcy for what it was worth. This Duplicity place just... didn't.]

H-...How long were you there for?

Trust me, I'd have a hard time believing it too if I hadn't been there. [ Even with this highly limited explanation, it was just way too over the top.

At his question for how long she was there for, she frowns for a moment, thinking about it.]

... Almost nine months or so. Give or take a couple of days, I guess. A lot of the people that I knew there weren't there for anywhere near as long though; sometimes they'd just vanish, somehow getting sent home.

Or I guess somewhere else, since, well, I'm obviously not home. Even if this is a much better place.

[That was such a long time. Then again, who knew how long they would be here in Lunatia. Even if this was place clearly the better alternative to Duplicity, it still made him feel homesick thinking he won't get to see his parents or Teddie for awhile, if ever.]

I guess it's better than nothing. Coming here, I mean.

[Still, all this didn't change what he thought of her. She had to deal with the hand she was dealt with. He couldn't blame her for that.]

[ She nods, sighing a bit before looking back over at him. Sure, she has to admit that Lunatia was great. But at the same time, it's been almost a year since she saw Gohan. Since she saw her Father, Erasa, or anyone else that she knew from before Duplicity.

She's honestly starting to wonder if she'll ever see them again.]

Yeah. It is. Though honestly, it doesn't really help my bigger problem. Or issues with the whole relationship thing, I guess. While it wasn't true for everyone I got close to, Duplicity was really, really good at waiting until I got close to someone before yanking them away from me. [ Ryuji and Kairi (and to a much lesser extent Sora) were probably the two major huge exceptions to that.]

And I'm sure you miss your friends and family back home too.

[He nodded and couldn't help himself when he reached over to take her hand, to give her a reassuring squeeze.]

I take it you have someone back home, then?

[It's the only thing he could think of that would give her issues with having a relationship, what happened in Duplicity notwithstanding.]
