[ Cue the video feed, which begins with a way-too-close-up of Prompto's face. What can be seen of his face, which is mostly just his eyes and freckled nose, looks excited as hell. This is sort of an impromptu broadcast, but he can't not share this. This is a big, big moment for him.

Everything is about to freakin' change. ]

Heyaz! It's ya boy, Prompto. [ ......... ] Uh, so, y'know that special magic chalk you can get from the Ware Wolf guy? Oh, shit, is that supposed to be on the DL? A-anyway. I got some of that biz, aaaaand now — well, I'll just let it speak for itself.

[ The video then turns away from Prompto's face and to a chalk drawing on the ground: a near-complete rendering of a chocobo inside of circle. That's it. It's literally just a poorly-drawn chocobo inside of a circle, with a bit of its tail missing. It'd been near completion when he decided to share this monumental moment with everyone he possibly could, and he still holds a piece of the chalk in his hand, ready to finish off the last of the drawing. Let's all beseech the summoning gods to not bring forth a chocobo as disfigured as the one that Prompto drew, but its shape is at least recognizable to those who are familiar with the species. ]

Bam. Check it! If this actually works, I'm gonna be the proud papa of a brand new chocobo! One that's alllll my own! But I'll let you guys ride it, if you ask nicely.

[ Anyway, enough chit-chat, it's time for action!!! As he squats down near the drawing again, the feed catches him drawing the last bit of the chocobo's tail. For a moment that stretches into eons, nothing happens, but then —

There's a flash of light that temporarily blocks out anything from come through on the video, but as it begins to fade, there is the distinct, unmistakable sound of a kweh.

In the center of the crudely-drawn-but-apparently-effective summoning circle stands a majestic, bright yellow chocobo. ]

Holyyyyyyy shit! It actually — a-are you guys seeing this? It actually worked! Holy shit, he — she?? She's beautiful, have you ever seen a more fluffy, sweet, perfect animal in the whole wide multiverse?! C'mere — wait, what am I gonna name it? I gotta name it —

[ ...The chocobo turns and starts to trot away. Bye! ]

— aaaand it's leaving. Okay, uhhhh, leave me some name suggestions, look forward to my 24-hour livestream of chocobo life coming at'chu soon! Crap—

[ And the video feed cuts off as he breaks into a run to catch his wayward son or daughter. ]

[ Damn right he's going for it. It may not be the exact same type from his own planet, but the fact the big bird still turns its head, gives him a little bit of hope. Despite the chaos that could potentially break out? Wrangling a chocobo reminded him of being out on the open road. Though hopefully this one would be a bit of an easier catch...

What grade did Prompto even summon? Good? Great? Wonderful?! ]

Can't say I blame it.

[ Off the back of the fellow chocobo-haired guy's attempts to soothe the curious bird, he waits a moment or two for the bird to respond to Prompto before chiming in, palms open at his sides as to show the bird there'd be no tricks or surprises. ]

Kweh.

[ Also rough translation: It's okay. ]

[ They must make a convincing enough case, because with Cloud's kweh, the chocobo at last draws to a stop, turning its head curiously at them. They seem to speak its language, even if the bird is unfamiliar with this place it has just appeared in. To so suddenly be in such a different place must be alarming enough, that even something as simple as some kwehs are a great source of comfort. ]

There's a good boy...or girl...don't really know yet...

[ He didn't exactly have the chance to suss that out before it skedaddled, after all.

Slowly, Prompto approaches, both hands in front of him in the universal sign of "I come in peace". ]

Kweeeeh. Kwark? Kweh.

[ Kweh, says the chocobo in return, before ducking forward to...

Nip at his hair. ]

[ As Cloud calmly approaches from behind, making sure not to make any sudden movements, Prompto is promptly getting his hair nibbled on. ]

Uh— [ He blinks. And then his shoulders lightly shake as he tries not to laugh. And fails as it comes out as a gentle chuckle. ]

I think it likes you.

[ Cloud would have raised an open hand and left it there for the chocobo if it wished to approach, but for now he simply stands back with a small smile on his face. It's his bird, after all. ]

[ It likes him, or his chocobo thinks his hair is delicious straw. It seems to decide soon enough that it is not delicious straw, fortunately, and instead butts his beak against the side of Prompto's head before stepping closer to investigate Cloud.

Kweh? ]

Hey, looks like you've got a fan, too! It can sense those that understand the ways of the chocobo.

[ That, and they're curious creatures, and maybe the chocobo just wanted to figure out why was following it (and if they have any food.) ]

[ Tifa's told him before how his hair looks just like a chocobo's. But when it steps up to him with a more quizzical 'Kweh?', the blond swordsman looks surprised. Peering around the bird to the guy, he shares looks between him and back up to the larger bird. They're slightly bigger than the ones from his world.

But it was like these creatures shared the same temperament across all worlds. It's responding to Cloud like he would have thought most would. ~~As one of their own.~~ ]

The ways of the chocobo, huh?

[ His smile lifts a bit more to that before looking up at their new feathery companion. He gives his best coo, letting the chocobo feel the situation out as best as it can without having someone up and trying to pet it yet. ]

Not bad that we got 'em to calm down without any greens. [ Speaking of though... ] Hey, [ Cloud addresses Prompto, ] We're not far from the marketplace.

I've seen some veggies that're pretty close to a Gysahl.

[ He wants to pet it sooooo bad, but Prompto's line of thinking is along the same lines as Cloud. Now that they've got it to calm down a bit, the last thing he wants to do is to spook it into running off by getting too chummy too quickly. But how to earn its trust?

Then Cloud voices his idea, and Prompto snaps his fingers together with a delighted grin. Of course! ]

Great idea! I always say the quickest way to a chocobo's heart is through its stomach. [ He never says that.......

His gaze flickers back to the chocobo, who tilts its head curiously at the pair of them. ]

How do we make sure it doesn't wander off in the meantime, though?

[ This guy's optimism was contagious, even if Cloud was relatively less expressive by comparison. ]

S'how I've caught mine. [ Even if he never says that, he thinks Prompto ain't wrong either. ]

Well, if it's this curious already...

[ There's only one way to find out. And that's for the blond to calmly walk past the bird that's trotted its way up to him, never taking his eyes off it before calling back. ]

Hey, c'mon, this way.

[ The words don't really matter so much as the gentle yet uplifting lilt in his voice, filled with encouragement as Cloud hopes that it'll follow them towards the marketplace. So long as they're ready to make sure the bird doesn't just suddenly go racing through the green market when it picks up those familiar scents! Follow the chocobo-butt hair! ]

[ Both Prompto and the bird fall into an easy step behind Cloud. It's like the chocobo knows that there is food coming its way, just by the direction they're going. They wouldn't just take it to the marketplace without buying it anything to eat, right? The bird has to believe these chocobo-butt-haired boys are better than that.

Or else they'll get a real mean kick to the ribs.

As they go, Prompto asks: ]

Wait, so you've caught chocobos before? Like, here, or back in your home world?

[ Is he yet another from Alisaie's world? Or even someone from Eos? ]

[ Cloud's been on the receiving end of one of those aforementioned mean kicks. Frankly? No thank you!

He looks back over his shoulder when Prompto addresses him. ]

Back home. [ A beat. ] Helps if you've got a Chocobo Lure, but I've tamed my fair share of them.

[ And raced them. And summoned them. And bred them. Stuff that may come up later for sure. ]

A chocobo lure? Y'mean, like, a whistle?

[ That's the only thing that he can think of that could be a chocobo lure, except for the greens, of course. Somehow, he doesn't think Cloud means a chocobo-shaped lure like something that Noctis would used to catch fish. ]

Man, though...I can't believe I meeting a real life chocobo tamer! Back home, we just rode 'em and raced 'em...but we did help out the ol' Chocobo Post from going out of business by taking care of a behemoth nearby.

[ Maybe he should explain what a behemoth is now too, but he can't help but wonder if Cloud is familiar with those as well. ]

Oh. [ That's right. He almost forgot completely. ] Actually it's like... [ Wait. Would this guy know? Since he knows Chocobos and the like, ] Ever heard of Materia?

[ As they traverse, the fellow blond is quieter and listens to him. He was about to correct him in that he wasn't like Chocobo Bill or the like, but the guy just kept on talking. But...to be honest, it was actually kind of endearing in a way. Who would have thought he'd be running into such a huge fanatic of the big birds?

Luckily for Prompto, when he mentions a behemoth? ]

One of those would just about anything outta business. [ He knows exactly what they were. ]

[ Alas, Prompto comes from the black sheep FF game that doesn't use Materia, although he'd heard the word used before, so his face lights up with recognition regardless. ]

Oh, yeah, I have! This kiiiinda edgy white-haired dude told me about it. You can make a chocobo lure outta that stuff?

[ With this context, he can understand now why Sephiroth was so concerned with it being stolen......Prompto's priorities are valid, okay. ]

You're tellin' me, though...anyway, saving the chocobo post was as close as we came to taming 'em, but after that, we could ride 'em wherever we wanted to.

[ By virtue of JRPG logic. ]

Edgy white-haired dude? [ He can't mean...does he-- oh. Cloud doesn't laugh, but he does find himself faintly shaking his head as if thinking "oh boy can't unhear that description of him now." ] Mm. It's something that attracts them to you. Without it, you won't catch squat.

[ They finally arrive at the green market, though Cloud stops to turn back to Prompto and the Chocobo who seems all too eager. No doubt the smell of various fresh greens and vegetables, and other various goods, wouldn't take long to fill its nose. ]

That's convenient. [ A beat. ] You wanna wait here while I pick up the goods?

[ Huh...he had no idea Materia was so potent and useful! Because what could be better than a rock that lures chocobos to you? Too bad Prompto and Sephiroth didn't exactly hit it off, and he won't be asking to borrow said rock anytime soon.

But hopefully they won't need it to keep the chocobo with them. As they approach the market, the bird seems to know exactly what they're here for, kwehing and fluttering her feathers excitedly. Prompto sets a hand against her neck to keep her from charging forward. ]

Miiiiight be a good call, there. Make it quick, though — I dunno how patient our friend here is gonna be!

[ Given long enough, the chocobo might decide to just take matters into her own talons and head in there herself. ]

Got it.

[ Without so much as saying another word, Cloud is quick to disappear into the marketplace. What follows next is effectively the world's quickest tapping of the O button as he finds the nearest merchant with carrots that are as close to Greens as they can get. He stocks up on a good batch of them since they're cheap enough? And comes running right back out.

Please still be there please still be there please still be there. ]

[ Fortunately for all parties involved, Prompto and the chocobo haven't moved...too much. They've only moved closer, in fact, because the chocobo was ready to follow Cloud right into the market, and it takes all of Prompto's strength just to hold her back.

So it comes as a tremendous relief when the other blonde reappears, Prompto flashing him a grin over his shoulder as the chocobo kwehs in anticipation. That's for her, right? Right??? ]

Phew, just in the nick of time! I don't think our friend here was gonna wait any longer!

[ Show her the goods!!! ]

[ That would have been a fiasco and a half- that much he was aware of. Getting a Chocobo under control that's already running amok wasn't the easiest thing, especially if one wasn't already equipped with the right kind of greenery. And he's not the most loaded person when it comes to his Chroma reserves.

Count their blessings? Count their blessings. ]

They're pretty patient for a wild chocobo. [ Speaking of said big bird... ] Sorry to keep you waiting.

[ Cloud pulls one out of his bag, dangling it by the fresh leafage in front of their face with a smile. Not that he plans on taunting it or swinging it back and forth like a pendulum for long. Holding it by the root, the blond looks up to it with an encouraging nod. ]

Easy now. Geeentle...
