[ Cue the video feed, which begins with a way-too-close-up of Prompto's face. What can be seen of his face, which is mostly just his eyes and freckled nose, looks excited as hell. This is sort of an impromptu broadcast, but he can't not share this. This is a big, big moment for him.

Everything is about to freakin' change. ]

Heyaz! It's ya boy, Prompto. [ ......... ] Uh, so, y'know that special magic chalk you can get from the Ware Wolf guy? Oh, shit, is that supposed to be on the DL? A-anyway. I got some of that biz, aaaaand now — well, I'll just let it speak for itself.

[ The video then turns away from Prompto's face and to a chalk drawing on the ground: a near-complete rendering of a chocobo inside of circle. That's it. It's literally just a poorly-drawn chocobo inside of a circle, with a bit of its tail missing. It'd been near completion when he decided to share this monumental moment with everyone he possibly could, and he still holds a piece of the chalk in his hand, ready to finish off the last of the drawing. Let's all beseech the summoning gods to not bring forth a chocobo as disfigured as the one that Prompto drew, but its shape is at least recognizable to those who are familiar with the species. ]

Bam. Check it! If this actually works, I'm gonna be the proud papa of a brand new chocobo! One that's alllll my own! But I'll let you guys ride it, if you ask nicely.

[ Anyway, enough chit-chat, it's time for action!!! As he squats down near the drawing again, the feed catches him drawing the last bit of the chocobo's tail. For a moment that stretches into eons, nothing happens, but then —

There's a flash of light that temporarily blocks out anything from come through on the video, but as it begins to fade, there is the distinct, unmistakable sound of a kweh.

In the center of the crudely-drawn-but-apparently-effective summoning circle stands a majestic, bright yellow chocobo. ]

Holyyyyyyy shit! It actually — a-are you guys seeing this? It actually worked! Holy shit, he — she?? She's beautiful, have you ever seen a more fluffy, sweet, perfect animal in the whole wide multiverse?! C'mere — wait, what am I gonna name it? I gotta name it —

[ ...The chocobo turns and starts to trot away. Bye! ]

— aaaand it's leaving. Okay, uhhhh, leave me some name suggestions, look forward to my 24-hour livestream of chocobo life coming at'chu soon! Crap—

[ And the video feed cuts off as he breaks into a run to catch his wayward son or daughter. ]

[ chocobos are hardcore, especially when they start kicking things. honestly, if peter knew about their level of hardcoreness he'd probably wish he had one to help him stop crime back home.

You don't know where you're gonna put it? [ peter laughs incredulously, but he still sounds sort of pleased anyway. ]

I dunno, man. I mean, there's gotta be, right? For whatever animals they're making food out of? Plus I think I heard there's a petting zoo. But... that might be kinda far out there. [ how was prompto going to ride his chocobo all day if it was living that farm life? ]

Maybe you should just sneak it into your apartment. [ he's. mostly joking. ]

[ He might be joking, but is he really??? Because Prompto is seriously considering it. It would last all of, like, thirty seconds, it's not like it's easy to hide the smell or sound of sight of a chocobo. But it's like when you bring home a stray. Once it's already there, your roommates can't say you have to take it to the shelter, right?

...He is definitely gonna try to justify this. ]

Maybe I should. I mean, I bet I can train her to be stealthy, like me! [ footage not found ] And I'll let her use all my best hair products on her feathers so she can stay fresh.

[ ...do hair products even work on feathers ]

Hey, that might be a good name! Fresh. Dr. Fresh. Or Freshley. I kinda dig it.

[ okay, of all things to focus on about that statement, peter finds himself focusing on how prompto says he would let the chocobo use the hair products, not that he would use them on her. ]

Wow, that's, uh, really generous of you. I dunno though, the smell of hair products might mess with the whole "stealth" thing you're trying to teach her- could be too noticeable, you know? [ yeah. that was the snag in the plan. ]

Dr. Fresh kiiinda sounds like a really bad DJ name. [ but it's said with no judgement. ]

I like Freshley, though. And then if she does leave a mess in the city or-or your apartment, people can't blame a bird named "Freshley" for making a mess, right? [ it's all coming together...! ]

[ I mean, he has a good point. Or at least, Prompto thinks he does. He's gotta give this chocobo stealth plan more thought...though if it smelled like his hair products then maybe it would just trick his roommates into thinking it was him!

...Okay, yeah, that's never gonna work. A name that inspires the thought of freshness, however... ]

Yeah, yeah! [ It's even better than he realized! ] Freshley...it's really growin' on me! I'm gonna have to run it by her, first, to make sure she likes it.

[ The chocobo's approval is very, very important, after all. ]

Y'know, I think we're onto something here. And — anyway, it's better to ask forgiveness than permission, right? People...people say that. I think.

How'll you know if she likes it? [ he's actually just genuinely curious, okay! ] I guess if she didn't like it, she could peck at you. [ man, he's still not over this "giant bird" thing. he seems glad to hear that prompto likes the name, though. ]

People definitely say that. [ he confirms, grin growing a little. ]

I don't think it's, uh... always true, but in this case I think it'll probably be fine. [ probably. listen, it's not that peter wants there to be fighting or messy apartments because of giant birds or anything, but prompto brought this adorable bird into this world, right? that's his responsibility now. it's only right for him to let her live in his home.

What does she eat, anyway? Are you gonna need to get, like, a huge bulk supply of seeds?

[ Peter isn't wrong. Chocobos aren't exactly subtle creatures, so if Prompto names her something she doesn't like, he's bound to find out through the sharp peck of her beak. ]

Pecking, scratching, ruffling feathers...pooping. There's lots of ways she can communicate. [ A beat. ] Let's just hope I land a winner the first go.

[ He will already be dealing with enough chocobo poop, no need to add revenge poops into the mix...he shudders. ]

She eats lots of green stuff. Wasn't sure if she'd like the lettuce here, but she seems okay with it. What they really love is gysahl greens. Super bitter, so maybe I ought to give her kale or spinach or something.

[ He should really get Ignis' opinion on this one. ]

Every single one of those things sounds awful coming from a bird her size. So, yeah... good luck! [ he'll be rooting for you and your new bird daughter, prompto. still... ]

Too bad you can't just ask her what name she wants. You'd think a place this big on animals would have a way of actually communicating with them. [ yeah, this is a silly, fantasy-sci-fi thought, but you know what?? this was a silly, fantasy-sci-fi place. give him a break. ]

Sounds like a really healthy bird. [ that's... probably a good thing, if he thinks about it, because again: She Is Huge. ]

At least you don't have to worry about her running around eating other people's pets.
